    the Maldives with progressively increasing responsibilities culminating in the position of UN Resident Coordinator UNDP Resident Representative in addition to serving in senior positions at UNDP Headquarters During his long career with UNDP his responsibilities included development and management of programs in human development and the broader aspect of sustainable development While in the Maldives in the mid 1990s he was instrumental in co sponsoring with the Government of Maldives the meeting of the IPCC in 1997 preparatory to the UNFCCC COP meeting in Kyoto Japan Representing IUCN at the United Nations Mr Kakar has performed admirably to advocate the cause of environmental conservation and sustainable development He has had prominent roles in discussions related to the Millennium Development Goals MDGs and in the Rio 20 UN Conference on Sustainable Development and in the Post 2015 Development Agenda He continues to participate actively in the discussions related to the Post 2015 Development Agenda and the formulation of the Sustainable Development Goals SDGs which will serve as a successor arrangement to MDGs Recognizing his commitment to conservation causes the American Museum of Natural History featured him prominently in the renovated Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Hall with an interview on the timeline of the conservation movement started by the 26 th President of the United States Former Presidents Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton are the two prominent leaders interviewed for the same timeline Mr Kakar has served on a number of boards as Chairperson of the UN Joint Appeals Board Chairman of the UN Federal Credit Union a saving and loan institution with assets of over 4 billion currently Member of the Board of Directors of the UN Joint Staff Pension Board with assets of over 55 billion currently and as a member of the Board of Directors of the International School of

    Web Mail Pace University Search form Search You are here Home Faculty Adjunct Faculty Shakeel Kazmi Shakeel Kazmi Shakeel Kazmi holds doctor of law S J D 2012 and masters of law LL M 2010 degrees in Environmental Law from the Pace University School of Law He is also a graduate from the American University Washington College of Law LL M 1994 He is an adjunct professor at NYU Poly and has held visiting appointments at Wuhan University and Qingdao University in China In addition to teaching climate change law and policy Professor Kazmi has practiced law in New York for more than 16 years He is also an advisor to Ministry of Climate Change Pakistan and is actively involved in climate change treaty negotiations In this role he has attended Green Climate Fund board of directors meetings in Seoul and Berlin Professor Kazmi researches in the area of Climate Change focusing on the climate change displacement and renewable energy in developing countries He is the author of Climate Change Human Rights In The Times Of Climate Displacement forthcoming and a co author Renewable Energy and Development Case Study Analyses and Environmental Law of the United Arab Emirates A Comparative

    serves as an adjunct professor at Pace Law School After receiving his law degree from Duke University he entered the legal field as a trial attorney for the Legal Aid Society and later began working at the District Attorney s Office in Brooklyn eventually rising to the position of Chief Assistant District Attorney Mr Keating was the Coordinator of Criminal Justice for Mayor Edward Koch from 1980 to 1982 later being appointed to the Criminal Court bench in New York City and serving as Supervising Judge for Brooklyn and Staten Island After being named the Administrative Judge for the New York City Criminal Court in 1984 he supervised and developed the Midtown Community Court which has been recognized by several national organizations for its innovative solutions in justice as well as inaugurating the first drug alternative to prison program with the Brooklyn District Attorney s Office He was designated a Court of Claims judge in 1987 and later became the Administrative Judge for the Supreme Court for Brooklyn and Staten Island Hon Keating also has worked in the private sector as a partner in a law firm as senior executive vice president of a physician practice management company and as chairman and CEO of a firm that provided consulting and alternative dispute resolution services He is the current vice chair of the Mayor s Advisory Committee on the Judiciary and serves on the board of directors for the Fund for the City of New York and the Citizens Union of the City of New York In 2002 New York Chief Judge Judith S Kaye and Chief Administrative Judge Jonathan Lippman announced the appointment of Robert G M Keating as head of the New York State Judicial Institute the first judicial training and research facility in the nation built by and
