    management including Emerging Issues in Public Health updates from the cutting edge of public health in topics ranging from bioterrorism to West Nile virus to risk communication includes an intro to public health administration and management styles Public Health Sanitation food safety and inspection techniques new topics on food security and a wide variety of other public health topics from tanning to rabies to pool chemistry Epidemiology Communicable Disease Modes of Transmission and Outbreak Investigations these are core skills utilized in protecting the public against everything from bioterrorism to contamination affecting our food supply Public Health Microbiology microbes and the symptoms transmission and prevention of diseases they cause Water and Wastewater stream pollution investigation and water treatment systems Soils Septics and the Environment soil logs and septic system design Environmental Pollution hazardous materials and pollution control strategies for air and water as well as toxic contaminants found in homes schools and office buildings EPH In the Field After the seven week classroom session concludes we ll place you in a 200 hour five week internship with a local health department Rutgers arranges the field experience for EPH students in accordance with the EPH Field Training Manual which ensures that all trainees receive a complete field training experience You ll gain a wide range of on the job skills including Inspecting wholesale and retail food establishments Conducting epidemiological investigations Monitoring streams lakes and groundwater Reviewing plans and inspecting septic systems Investigating air and noise pollution Investigating reports of disease outbreaks Addressing current public health concerns Take the Licensing Exam Begin a Public Health Career Once you ve successfully completed the entire EPH Program you will be eligible and fully prepared to take the State REHS licensing exam and begin your career in public health 2015 Dates In the Classroom June 1
