    About Us The Paul H Nitze School of Advanced International Studies SAIS is a global institution that offers students a truly international perspective on today s critical issues 2 Academics SAIS students combine the study of international economics with key policy areas of global concern that span the world s pivotal regions Our students are innovative thinkers and problem solvers and leave well equipped to deal with global challenges 3 Admissions A SAIS degree represents excellence in international relations and our graduates are in great demand Economics knowledge analytical abilities regional expertise diplomatic skills language proficiency and the capacity to apply theory to real world problems give our students a distinct professional advantage 4 African Studies The African Studies Program offers an extensive curriculum covering development governance and security across the continent We draw on leading theories of international politics political economy and comparative analysis in approaching this dynamic region 5 Alumni We are a community of 17 000 strong with alumni residing in international centers such as Tokyo Hong Kong Singapore London Sao Paulo New York Boston San Francisco and in Washington D C Stay connected with each other and with the SAIS community 6 American Foreign Policy The American Foreign Policy Program prepares students to understand the history culture process and politics of America s foreign relations and contemporary issues of American foreign policy 7 Arabic The Arabic program is designed to enable students of international affairs to pursue successful careers in the Foreign Service or other governmental private or international agencies or in fields such as journalism business finance and education 8 Bernard L Schwartz Globalization Initiative The initiative serves as a platform for high level academic research and policy discussion that engages major economic and political issues relating to the processes of globalization incl international trade
