    and departments in the City and County of San Francisco and neighborhood stakeholders students dedicated nearly 30 000 hours of service over four years to help stakeholders revitalize their neighborhoods The University community collaboration positively impacted nearly 80 000 San Franciscans generated two Town Hall meetings two Environmental Summits numerous policy meetings six community leadership workshops six Community Councils and Festivals that hosted more than 1 200 community celebrants tutoring services to 5 653 low income k 8 students and senior service The C Peter Magrath University Community Engagement Award recognizes four year public universities that have redesigned their learning discovery and engagement functions to become productively involved within their communities The Magrath recipients are chosen from a pool of four regional winners from the Outreach Scholarship W K Kellogg Foundation Engagement Awards which are presented each fall during the National Outreach Scholarship Conference Return to Top NEW Chief Justice s Award for Exemplary Service and Leadership JusticeCorps SAN FRANCISCO Chief Justice Tani G Cantil Sakauye announced that the California JusticeCorps Program is the recipient of the Chief Justice s Award for Exemplary Service and Leadership The award honors an individual entity or program deserving of special recognition for outstanding service to the judicial branch JusticeCorps is a signature partnership housed at SF State s Community Service Learning CSL program The California JusticeCorps program is a partnership of the Judicial Council of California the Administrative Office of the Courts AOC Los Angeles Alameda on behalf of the Bay Area and San Diego Superior Courts and 4 University of California UC and 8 California State University CSU campuses SF State University being on among them An AmeriCorps national service program JusticeCorps recruits trains and places about 280 undergraduate and recently graduated students in service in 28 courts based self help legal access centers in partner counties While the program was originally designed to bring extra resource to overburdened courts striving to serve ever growing numbers of self represented litigants it is the education provided to student s participation that has become the unanticipated yet most inspiring success It s appropriate that we honor JusticeCorps on Law Day said the Chief Justice Members are recruited from our state s diverse campuses and about 70 percent of them are bilingual Last year JusticeCorps members provided assistance to approximately 16 000 self represented litigants in their native language and more than 110 000 litigants in total At a time when the judicial branch has faced unprecedented cuts JusticeCorps members have provided a significant contribution to the rule of law and to the judicial branch s self help centers which serve more than a million Californians every year JusticeCorps began in Los Angeles 10 years ago and has expanded to San Diego and Bay Area counties The Chief Justice gave out the award at a JusticeCorps anniversary event sponsored by Los Angeles Superior Court SF State JusticeCorps News Here Top Innovation Positive Measurable Outcomes We are pleased to announce that Advocates for College Education Success

    community to explain what Cultural Humility is and why we need it Last Update April 20 2015 ICCE Home Faculty Resources for Faculty Benefits of CSL for Faculty NEW Community Service Learning Town Hall Community Service Learning CSL Community Engagement Forms Grants Research Publication Faculty Development Workshops NEW Community Service Learning Town Hall Thursday April 30 at 10 30 a m in LIB 121 SF State Community Service Learning CSL Make a difference in the lives of students and in the community The Institute for Civic and Community Engagement ICCE promotes and supports the professional growth of SF State faculty Community Service Learning CSL has been identified as a high impact educational practice HIP by the Association of American Colleges and Universities AAC U Interactive CSL courses promote achievement and improve quality of learning in traditionally underserved student populations students of color the economically disadvantaged first generation college students and students with different learning styles ICCE helps faculty incorporate CSL pedagogy into their courses identify appropriate community placement sites and connect you with them monitor students and manage potential risks Community Engagement Forms CSL Courses satisfy SF State s new interconnected educational outcomes and Goals for the Baccalaureate Appreciation of diversity Ethical engagement Integration application of knowledge in lower and upper division Gen Ed courses Foster qualities of mind and spirit Promote social justice and civic knowledge engagement For more information about how CSL courses satisfy the new graduation requirements see the pdf below CSL New Graduation Requirements Grants for faculty engaged scholarship awards to incorporate CSL into your curriculum and professional recognition for service learning or civic engagement activities Since 2000 the CSL program has awarded 609 770 in grants to 131 faculty members across six colleges and 54 departments ICCE staff also nominate faculty for prestigious national awards
