    on the basis of the student s withdrawal date and the length of the semester The length of the semester is calculated from the first day of the semester through final exams and excludes any breaks of 5 days or more Refund checks are processed and forwarded to the student s home address within three weeks from the official withdrawal date A Refund Request form is not necessary to complete the refund process Examples Undergraduate resident student A enrolls for 6 units paying the 1 587 00 tuition fee and 502 00 local fees total fees paid 2 089 00 Student withdraws 28 days into the 112 day semester Student was enrolled for 25 0 28 112 of the semester and receives a refund of 75 0 of the total tuition and registration fee 1 566 75 less 20 00 non refundable administrative fee and less 2 00 non refundable ID card resulting in a final refund of 1 544 75 Undergraduate international student B enrolls for 6 units paying the 1 587 00 tuition fee 2 232 00 372 00 x 6 units nonresident tuition and 502 00 local fees total fees paid 4 321 00 Student withdraws 28 days into the 112 day semester before the pro rata deadline date for the nonresident tuition Student was enrolled for 25 0 28 112 of the semester and receives a refund of 75 0 of the total fees paid 3 240 75 less 20 00 non refundable administrative fee and less 2 00 non refundable ID card resulting in a final refund of 3 218 75 back to Refund Guidelines menu Unit Load Change for Residents Partial Refund of Tuition Fee Deadline and Eligibility Students are eligible for a partial refund of the Tuition fee if payment is made for 6 1 or more units but only officially registered for 6 0 or fewer units as of the published drop date Calculation Partial Refund Schedule Undergraduates Credential Graduate Students Full time Tuition Fees 2 736 00 3 174 00 3 369 00 Less Part time Tuition 1 587 00 1 842 00 1 953 00 Administrative Fee 20 00 20 00 20 00 Partial Tuition Fee Refund 1 129 00 1 312 00 1 396 00 Education Leadership Doctoral program requires full time enrollment so there is no partial refund For Example An undergraduate resident student enrolls for 9 units paying the full tuition of 3 238 00 for 6 1 or more units The student drops 3 units by the ending date of the designated drop period which is 5 days into the 112 day semester and receives a refund of 1 149 00 less 20 00 non refundable administrative fee results in a final refund of 1 129 00 See schedule above If the student after receiving a partial refund subsequently withdraws 40 days into the semester the student would be subject to a pro rata refund based on the maxed number of units they were ever enrolled

    Summer 2010 Spring 2010 Tuition Statement 1098T Tax Reporting The Tax Relief Act of 1997 provides education tax incentives for eligible taxpayers These benefits allow taxpayers to reduce their federal income tax based upon qualified tuition and fees charged paid assuming the taxpayer meets all TRA 97 requirements Educational institutions such as San Francisco State University is mandated to file informational returns IRS Form 1098 T with the IRS indicating a student s enrollment and report either amounts billed or payments received for qualified tuition and related expenses This form is an informational return for your personal records and is not required to be submitted with your tax return San Francisco State University extracts and generates via Campus Solutions application a 1098 T form also known as a Tuition Statement to each student who was enrolled during that respective tax year The 1098 T is available for download by January 31st of the following year from the Student Center through SF Gateway or mailed out if required The electronic version is the most convenient fastest and safest way to receive a form To Receive an Electronic Copy of Form 1098 T GO GREEN and sign up to receive your 1098 T Form electronically Give your consent to receive your 1098 T Form electronically by logging into your Student Center In the Student Center page scroll down to the Finance section and click on the 1098 T Print Option Steps to Receive an Electronic Copy of Form 1098 T Log onto your student center through SF Gateway Once in your Student Center scroll down to the Finance section Inside the other financial box click on the down arrow key and select view 1098 T Reasons a 1098 T Form is NOT Generated Below are reasons why a student s 1098 T

    by the bank for any reason your registration may be cancelled and you will be assessed a non refundable 20 dishonored check fee along with any applicable non refundable late fee Please note When a check is provided as payment you authorize SF State either to use information from your check to make a one time electronic fund transfer from your account or to process the payment as a check transaction Our mailing address is San Francisco State University Bursar s Office ADM 155 1600 Holloway Avenue San Francisco CA 94132 Only certified funds are accepted if you are paying your tuition and fees for the first time on or after the first day of the semester If there are any discrepancies or concerns regarding your payment please contact the Bursar s Office at 415 338 1281 by email at bursar sfsu edu or in person at the Administration Building 155 or Student Service Building 103 Please take into consideration delivery and processing time when mailing your payment The Bursar s Office is not responsible for any delayed or misdirected mail by the U S Postal Service or Campus Mail Services See Returned Check Policy back to Payment Methods menu Certified Funds Certified funds such as cashier s check or money order must be made payable to SF State Include your name and SF State ID number on the face of the check If your check payment for tuition and fees is returned by the bank for any reason your registration may be cancelled and you will be assessed non refundable 20 dishonored check fee along with any applicable non refundable late fee Please note When a check is provided as payment you authorize SF State either to use information from your check to make a one time electronic fund transfer from your account or to process the payment as a check transaction back to Payment Methods menu Financial Aid Deferment If the Office of Student Financial Aid notifies you that you have been awarded and you have accepted an offer of Financial Aid excluding college work study your tuition and fee payment will be postponed with a fee deferment You may register for classes without paying tuition fees up front Do not apply for the University s Installment Payment Agreement unless your aid has been cancelled See Financial Aid Important Dates for more information back to Payment Methods menu Credit Debit Card 2 75 fee Credit Debit Card payments MasterCard VISA American Express and Discover are only accepted online through the university third party provider To pay online log on to SF State Gateway Navigate to the Student Center and in the Finances section center of the page click on Make a Payment A non refundable service fee of 2 75 for each credit debit card transaction will be added to the total payment amount Service fees are retained by the vendor The cardholder student and or parent will see two transactions on their statement one for the university
