    Home Research Partnering with Sheridan Partnering with Sheridan Working with Sheridan Project Idea Intake Form for prospective industry community partners A partnership with Sheridan brings together industry community partners students and faculty on undergraduate research development and innovation activities that help our partners become more productive and competitive Under the leadership of Faculty representatives and technical experts teams of Sheridan students from a variety of diverse academic programs address the business and technological challenges of small and medium sized enterprises SMEs in the Halton and Peel Regions and surrounding areas Through these innovation partnerships Sheridan provides the talent equipment and access to facilities that small and medium sized organizations often struggle to access in order to solve a key problem Our Industrial Liaison Manager in the Office of Undergraduate Research acts as a main contact point for the client throughout the partnership and provides project management support What do Industry and Community Partners Contribute to an Undergraduate Research Collaboration We do ask our clients to work as closely with the research team as possible providing feedback throughout the life of the project Within the context of funded research external parties may be asked to contribute in kind services e g staff time to work with the research team and or cash depending on the grant s requirements Undergraduate research projects can take several forms Non funded curriculum based capstone projects teams of upper year students in a project based course are matched with industry community partners and develop solutions to their particular challenges These research projects are integrated into the curriculum and serve as a core component of the course Students complete the research work for course credit and are supervised by their course instructor who also ultimately defines the deliverable Funded co op projects Students work full time over a period of time as part of the project team and receive compensation in the form of salary or wages paid either by the partner or through a research grant These projects may serve as co op work semester Like the capstone project a professor supervises students While the scope of the project and the deliverables must be negotiated and agreed upon prior to the commencement of the project unlike the capstone project the client defines the deliverable Funded non co op projects Occasionally it may be requested that Sheridan students complete work for a third party outside the confines of regular course work and on a part time basis Students are paid an hourly wage for their services Co curricular activities Students can also build their skills by participating in co curricular research projects As part of the Co Curricular Record CCR program at Sheridan CCR projects formally recognize and track student work conducted outside of the classroom the work does not make up a part of the course grade and they are driven by learning outcomes Professors must add specific projects to the Sheridan CCR directory before making the opportunities available to students CCR opportunities can be paid
