    Breadcrumb Navigation Home Our People Faculty Law Faculty Nancy Strohmeyer Share this page Nancy Strohmeyer Head of Public Services and Associate Professor Office Lesar Law Building Room 174 Phone 618 453 8789 e mail nstrohmeyer siu edu Professor Nancy L Strohmeyer discovered the profession of law librarianship as an undergraduate student at the University of Illinois She worked in libraries from her sophomore year through her graduate education including one year at the SIU Law Library and two years at Morris Library while attending the SIU School of Law After completing her JD degree from SIU she began her full time career in law libraries at Loyola University School of Law in New Orleans Louisiana Professor Strohmeyer worked in reference and law library administration at Loyola then continued her career in Arkansas and Florida before returning to the SIU School of Law Library in December 2012 as Head of Public Services and Assistant Professor Participating in teaching legal research in various ways throughout her career Professor Strohmeyer enjoys being part of the Lawyering Skills team at SIU She also has created and maintained web pages to some degree at each institution where she worked Professor Strohmeyer considers her work providing reference assistance to students faculty and the general public to be the most important aspect of her job She learns from library patrons and staff regularly adding to her skills and continuing her education daily Professor Strohmeyer passsed the Florida bar examination in 2007 and is an active member of the Florida Bar A lifelong fan of the St Louis Cardinals Professor Strohmeyer is happy to return to the area so that she can attend more ballgames Her siblings all live in or near St Louis so she now can spend more time with her family She is proud to

    the faculty at the SIU School of Law Professor Behan served on active duty with the United States Army Judge Advocate General s Corps for nearly eleven years His most recent assignment was Associate Professor of Criminal Law at the Judge Advocate General s School in Charlottesville Virginia where he taught evidence military criminal law and trial advocacy to attorneys from all United States military services and many allied militaries During his military career he also served as a legal assistance attorney military prosecutor criminal defense attorney administrative law attorney international and operational law attorney and legal advisor to U S forces in the Sinai Desert as part of the Multinational Force and Observers Professor Behan earned an L L M in Military Law Criminal Law Specialty from the Judge Advocate General s School in 2003 and was named to the Commandant s List He received his J D magna cum laude in 1995 from Brigham Young University s J Reuben Clark Law School He was a member of the Order of Barristers the Director of Interschool Competitions on the Moot Court Board and a member of the National Moot Court Team In 1995 his team took second place at the University of Minnesota Civil Rights Moot Court Competition He obtained his B A magna cum laude from Brigham Young University in 1992 majoring in English In addition to teaching at SIU School of Law Professor Behan is a member of the faculty of the National Judicial College in Reno Nevada where he teaches advanced evidence to judges He also teaches trial advocacy for the National Institute of Trial Advocacy in Louisville Colorado Professor Behan is married to Valery Christiansen Behan J Reuben Clark Law School Class of 1994 They have seven children and two cats Professor Behan s hobbies

    Breadcrumb Navigation Home Our People Faculty Law Faculty Edward Dawson Share this page Edward Dawson Assistant Professor of Law Office Lesar Law Building Room 252 Phone 618 453 8758 e mail edawson siu edu Ed Dawson joined the faculty of Southern Illinois University School of Law in 2014 He teaches legislation and administrative process federal courts and civil rights litigation His scholarship focuses on constitutional law civil rights law and federal courts Ed is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and University of Texas School of Law and former judicial law clerk to the Honorable Ed Carnes United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit and Honorable Anthony Kennedy United States Supreme Court Between his clerkships and academia Ed practiced appellate law in Austin Texas for eight years most recently as a partner at Yetter Coleman LLP While in practice he represented clients in Texas state trial and appellate courts and federal trial and appellate courts and the United States Supreme Court in a wide variety of cases including public law cases and commercial disputes Prior to joining the faculty of SIU he was a teaching fellow and assistant professor of professional practice at LSU s Paul

    teaches in areas at the nexus of health policy bioethics and law With experience at the graduate and undergraduate levels she has taught at Southern Illinois University Drake University and Asian University for Women in Bangladesh She also has served as the executive director of the Institute on Biotechnology and the Human Future and associate director of the Center on Nanotechnology and Society both at Chicago Kent College of Law a Fulbright Fellow at Queen s University Centre for Health Services and Policy Research in Canada a compliance officer and corporate planner for a health maintenance organization and a director of a healthcare association As an attorney licensed in Illinois and Missouri Ms Mekel clerked for the Missouri Supreme Court Her academic portfolio contains a number of legal and bioethics oriented publications and presentations She presently is the editor of The Journal of Legal Medicine A graduate of the University of Missouri Columbia Ms Mekel earned a juris doctor graduating Order of the Coif a master s of health administration a master s of business administration and a bachelor s of journalism During law school she served as Editor in Chief of the Missouri Law Review Classes 598 Bioethics and

    618 453 8744 e mail mabritt siu edu Mark Brittingham joined the Law School faculty in 2007 as Visiting Assistant Professor A 1982 graduate of the SIU School of Law he comes to the law school from SIU s Office of the General Counsel where he spent five years as the University s chief labor lawyer and in 2004 its Interim General Counsel Prior to joining the University Professor Brittingham spent twenty years in private practice in St Louis His private practice focused on business employment and environmental litigation and on general business counseling He has handled to conclusion antitrust securities fraud contract employment and education discrimination NEPA and shareholder lawsuits He also has negotiated collective bargaining agreements and handled many labor grievances and unfair labor practice charges in both the public and private sectors Finally Professor Brittingham has substantial experience with the law of public entities In addition to representing public school districts and fire protection districts he served as vice president and director of the St Louis Development Corporation director and chairman of the Land Clearance for Redevelopment Authority and director of the Planned Industrial Expansion Authority the principal public redevelopment agencies of the City of St Louis During his terms of service these agencies constructed the Edward D Jones Dome the new Kiel Auditorium now the Scott Trade Center and St Louis Marketplace Missouri s first tax increment financing project Professor Brittingham also served two terms as alderman of Eureka Missouri He continues to serve on the Advisory Committee to the Illinois Educational Labor Relations Board and on the Board of Directors of the Shawnee Healthcare System the largest provider of healthcare to the indigent in southern Illinois Professor Brittingham s wife Kathleen Pine also a 1982 graduate of the School of Law is a long time

    s Cape Girardeau St Louis and southern Illinois offices Tom is licensed to practice law in Illinois Missouri and Kentucky Prior to joining Allen Kopet Tom was the supervising partner for Rusin Maciorowski and Friedman s southern Illinois office from 2002 through mid 2013 Tom earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Management from the National Louis University in Florida and graduated with high honors in 1989 Tom went on to attend the Southern Illinois School of Law where he graduated with his Juris Doctor in 1993 While in law school he was selected as a finalist in the first year Moot Court competition served as a certified mediator through the school s Alternative Dispute Resolution Clinic worked as an articles editor for the SIU Law Journal and was third year co captain of the Products Liability Moot Court team Tom was admitted to the Illinois Bar in 1993 and to the United States District Court for the Southern District of Illinois in 1994 His publications include Health Care Workers and AIDS HIV Transmission in the Health Care Environment which was published in volume 13 of the Journal of Legal Medicine in 1992 Tom has served as an editor on several scholarly articles analyzing constitutional issues several of which have appeared in nationally recognized law journals Before joining Rusin Maciorowski and Friedman Ltd Tom served as the Assistant Attorney General and Office Director for the southern Illinois Office of the Illinois Attorney General in Carbondale Illinois He is an experienced trial attorney in matters of workers compensation insurance defense litigation subrogation and family law An accomplished public speaker and educator Tom has appeared on numerous local radio and television programs including the Help is Available television program for his legal expertise He hosted a regional 30 minute Public Report television
