    She taught U S Constitutional Law and U S Common Law Methods to German law students After leaving Germany Fountaine spent the rest of her sabbatical in Amman Jordan working with the American Bar Association s Rule of Law Initiative on legal education reform She taught at the University of Cincinnati College of Law from 1992 97 and during the 2005 06 academic year she was a visiting professor at Washington and Lee University School of Law Prior to teaching Fountaine practiced law at O Melveny and Myers in Los Angeles California where she was a litigator Fountaine holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Indiana University Bloomington and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Southern California Gould School of Law She is an alumna of the Harvard University Institute for Management and Leadership in Education Fountaine focuses her teaching and scholarship on issues relating to the powers of government and access to justice with particular emphasis on the federal courts role in enforcing individual rights In addition her scholarship explores the lawyer s role in assuring effective representation and participation in the judicial system Her areas of expertise include civil procedure federal courts civil rights the jury process complex litigation and legal ethics Fountaine has been active in professional and community service as well Dean Fountaine serves on the Illinois Supreme Court Commission on Professionalism and is a member of the Deans Advisory Committee to the Illinois Supreme Court Commission on Access to Justice In addition she is a member of the Executive Committee of the Association of American Law Schools Section on Women in Legal Education and the chair of the Section s Ruth Bader Ginsburg Lifetime Achievement Award Subcommittee She has been active on various committees of the International Association of Law Schools and a

    Faculty Law Faculty William A Drennan Share this page William A Drennan Associate Professor of Law Office Lesar Law Building Room 220 Phone 618 453 8729 e mail wdrennan siu edu Professor Drennan joined the SIU School of Law faculty on a full time basis in 2005 after teaching as an adjunct in 2004 He teaches federal income tax business tax trusts and estates basic estate planning and charities and charitable giving He researches and writes in the areas of taxation and intellectual property Prior to joining the faculty Professor Drennan was in private practice for twenty years with a major St Louis law firm specializing in taxation estate planning nonqualified deferred compensation and nonprofit organizations Professor Drennan has an LL M in Taxation from Washington University in St Louis awarded in 1997 and an LL M in Intellectual Property from Washington University in St Louis awarded in 2003 He graduated from St Louis University Law School in 1985 magna cum laude He was an articles editor for the St Louis University Law Review and was one of two tax law editors for the law review He graduated from the St Louis University School of Business and Administration in 1982 summa cum laude with a major in accounting He passed the Missouri CPA exam in 1984 Professor Drennan is a member of the American Law Institute a fellow of the American College of Tax Counsel and a fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel Professor Drennan s articles have been published in the Alabama Law Review Florida Law Review Tennessee Law Review Oklahoma Law Review Utah Law Review Miami Law Review Arkansas Law Review University of Toledo Law Review Vermont Law Review Florida Tax Review and Virginia Tax Review Professor Drennan taught in the LL M in

    University School of Law Professor Angela Upchurch was a Professor of Law and the Associate Dean for Pedagogical Development at Capital University Law School She also served as the Academic Director of the National Center for Adoption Law and Policy at Capital University Law School from 2007 to 2010 Her research interests include children and family law procedural law and the impact of dispute resolution systems on the interests of children and families An expert in children and family law Professor Upchurch participated in the 2008 White House Compassion in Action Roundtable on Faith and Community Solutions for Orphans and Vulnerable Children and presented on the Hague Treaty on Intercountry Adoption before the National Conference of State Legislatures She has taught a variety of children and family law courses including Adoption Law Children Family and the States Interdisciplinary Child Welfare Law and Biotechnology and Reproduction Law Professor Upchurch is also a recognized expert in law school pedagogy She has presented on her innovative approaches to integrating technology into the law school classroom at several national teaching conferences including the Institute for Law Teaching and Learning Annual Conference and the CALI Conference of Law School Computing Professor Upchurch drew upon her innovative use of educational technology to co author Civil Procedure An Interactive Guide an online interactive book for law students to be published by Carolina Academic Press She has developed and led teaching workshops for law faculty at Capital University Law School Loyola University Chicago School of Law and the Ohio State University School of Law Professor Upchurch also serves as the 2015 Program Committee Co Chair for the AALS Teaching Methods Section Professor Upchurch received her J D from Loyola University Chicago School of Law where she graduated first in her class and served as the editor in chief

    Director of Clinical and Experiential Education and Assistant Professor of Law Office Lesar Law Building Room 179 Phone 618 536 8319 e mail erbes siu edu An assistant clinical professor since 1996 John F Erbes brings a varied practice background for his role as teacher supervisor and mentor to students enrolled in the Legal Clinic Elderly Program and in his classroom courses John has twenty one years of law practice and ten years of teaching experience His practice areas have included general civil law school law local government law administrative hearings and criminal defense at the trial appellate and supreme court level as well as in the military courts Prior to teaching in law school John taught undergraduate law courses in the SIU Finance Department and College of Technical Careers Professor Erbes relishes the opportunity his position in legal education provides to expose students to the practice of law and help train them in the proper way to become competent conscientious and ethical lawyers committed to serving clients and their communities John earned his law degree from Southern Illinois University in 1979 and has a B A with honors from Western Illinois University He is admitted to practice law in Illinois the Southern District of Illinois Federal Courts and Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals The scholarship interests of Professor Erbes include elder law health law and clinical legal education He regularly writes articles on senior and health issues and speaks frequently to senior audiences and groups interested in issues affecting older individuals John is very active in state and national bar associations serving the bar on committees and task forces and providing continuing education through his involvement in legal education programs and bar association newsletters He is currently serving his second year as co editor of the Illinois State Bar
