    Students Alumni Friends Employers Info For Breadcrumb Navigation Home Info For Cost and Aid Share this page Cost and Aid Financial support from the State of Illinois combined with a generous program of scholarships for both incoming and current students allow graduates of the SIU School of Law to enjoy an average debt load that is below the national law school average Incoming students whose permanent state of residency is outside of Illinois may be eligible to receive a Non Resident Tuition Scholarship which will offset the difference between out of state and in state tuition Student loans and work study opportunities are administered by the university s Financial Aid Office Information concerning in state resident applications loans and financial aid procedures may be obtained from the Office of Admissions Tuition and Fees Cost of Attendance 2015 16 JD Scholarships Awards SIU School of Law offers competitive admissions scholarships up to full tuition Scholarships are awarded to incoming students who demonstrate a high aptitude for the study of law In addition incoming students whose permanent state of residency is outside of Illinois may be eligible to receive a Non Resident Tuition Scholarship which will offset the difference between out of

    requirements for international visiting and transfer applicants Consideration for Admission Individuals who have completed a bachelor s degree or equivalent from an accredited institution in the United States or abroad by the first day of fall semester class August 22 2016 are eligible for admission to law school There are no prerequisite courses or specific majors required for entry Applicants from all disciplines and areas of study are admitted to the School of Law Application and Admissions Timeline The School of Law Admissions Committee will conduct a holistic review of every application upon receipt of all required documents Therefore while GPA and LSAT are important factors in the admissions process non numeric factors are considered Non numeric factors include the personal statement letters of recommendation and work experience community service honors or awards reflected through a resume We offer a rolling admissions process and we will accept scores from the June 13 2016 LSAT administration Sept 1 Office of Admissions begins accepting applications for fall 2016 entry Nov Admissions Committee begins reviewing applicant files Nov Aug Applicant files are reviewed on a rolling basis committee decisions are posted to the applicant s online status checker Application Material Checklist Below is a checklist for first year JD applicants For international transfer or visiting JD applicants An application will not be reviewed until all application materials have been received Once a file is complete please allow 2 3 weeks for a committee decision to be reached All admission decisions are posted to the applicant s online status checker Application and 50 Application Fee waived for fall 2016 entry LSAC org Personal Statement upload with online application Current Resume upload with online application Character and Fitness personal explanation if applicable LSAC Credential Assembly Service Report CAS LSAT taken within the past five years

    federal Seventh Circuit Each law school is entitled to nominate one person as the possible recipient The student must be in his her third year in the 2010 2011 school year and should have demonstrated legal ability and achievement in his her law school including high scholastic standing and either legal writing or extracurricular activities such as law review or other journal moot court clinical program etc The nominee should be in need of the scholarship to complete law school Our typical Scholarship Award recipients have exemplified personal commitment and sacrifice to pursue their legal careers The SIU nominee will compete with students nominated from other law schools within the Seventh Circuit David C Johnson Scholarship Open to present 1L or 2L The David C Johnson Scholarship is to be awarded to a Southern Illinois University law student in good academic standing The recipient must be a first generation college student i e from a family where neither parent received a degree from an accredited four year college or university This scholarship will be applied to the recipient s Bursar Account in 2010 2011 Lincoln s Inn Certificate Only Open to 3L Outstanding leadership and service to the law school and with the expectation of continued leadership and service to the law school and the legal profession Students should be in the top 80 of the class but lower rank is not an automatic disqualification The Committee is to select no more than 8 of the students in the Senior class for this honor Separate application required Judge James O Monroe Jr Award Open to present 3L The Judge James O Monroe Jr Award is to be awarded to a Southern Illinois University third year law student who shall have demonstrated excellence in writing or research programs which are a part of his her law school studies National Association of Women Lawyers Award NAWL Membership Open to present 3L The National Association of Women Lawyers Award is to be awarded to the third year student who best fits the following criteria the student has shown academic achievement tenacity and drive contributes to the advancement of women in society who promotes issues and concerns of women in the legal profession shows promise to contribute to the advancement of women in society and has earned the respect of the faculty The recipient receives a one year honorary membership in the NAWL including receipt of all publications Scott H Nichols Memorial Endowed Scholarship Open to present 1L or 2L The Scott H Nichols Memorial Endowed Scholarship is to be awarded to a student who is in financial need Note The committee anticipates that there will be many students with financial need Please explain any extraordinary circumstances beyond the usual loans associated with school which make you the ideal candidate for this scholarship SIU School of Law Public Interest Award Open to present 1L or 2L The SIU School of Law will award the Public Interest Award to one or more students who have
