    IP Law Society hosts event with Monsanto attorneys January 23 2016 Pete Rosenbery A discussion next week at the SIU School of Law will provide insight into the work of attorneys with a large biotech firm The law school s Intellectual Property Society a registered student organization is sponsoring a discussion featuring attorneys from St Louis based Monsanto The presentation IP Law and Agricultural Biotechnology A Discussion with Monsanto s IP Lawyers begins at 12 15 p m Tuesday Jan 26 in the Hiram H Lesar Building Courtroom at Southern Illinois University Carbondale The discussion is open to students and the public Lunch will be provided for law school students who attend Ryan T Holte an assistant law professor whose teaching expertise is intellectual property law and property law said the talk will center on intellectual property law as it relates to biotechnology and corporate intellectual property practice Our hope is that students especially law students and the public will better understand how a large biotech company legal group works what issues they deal with on a daily basis and insight into becoming an in house lawyer as part of a legal career path he said Four members of the

    in Leadership Program Share this page SIU Law s 6th Annual Women in Leadership Program January 20 2016 Small group discussions were facilitated by area attorneys Gloria Farha Flentje Class of 76 spoke to a group of approximately 80 students faculty attorneys and judges at the dinner Friday evening Women leaders Dean Cynthia Fountaine Gloria Flentje and Professor Cindy Buys Southern Illinois University School of Law hosted its sixth Women in Leadership Program last week The program focuses on preparing law students to be leaders while also learning about challenges women face within the legal profession A total of 32 current SIU School of Law students including male students participated in the workshop with topics that include gender and communication negotiation interviewing networking gender issues in the workplace and balancing career and family and running for elected office The program features law school faculty alumni local attorneys and judges participating in lectures small group discussions group exercises and panel discussions The annual two day workshop culminated with a dinner on Friday featuring Gloria Farha Flentje as keynote speaker See photos Flentje a member of SIU Law s charter class of 1976 is recognized as one of the most effective women leaders in the aerospace industry After serving for more than 20 years as a partner in one of Kansas s premier law firms she moved to Boeing as chief counsel She then served as Senior Vice President of Spirit AeroSystems a large international firm with over 13 000 employees and facilities all over the world Law school professors Cindy Galway Buys and Alice M Noble Allgire created the Women in Leadership program in 2010 to address gender inequities that exist within the legal profession This year s program was supported in part by Kaplan Themis and Bloomberg Special thanks to
