    contact the Law Library Circulation Desk at 618 453 8796 Interlibrary Loan Policies The Law Library will try to borrow materials from other sources for law students faculty and staff only Allow several weeks for the materials to arrive by mail To request an item please fill out the ILL form available in the Law Library and turn it in to the Circulation Desk You will be notified when the material arrives or if our requests are denied Please provide as much information as you can about the source and what you require We are sometimes able to get pages sent through email so list specific pages needed if you know Make certain to give an email address so we can contact you with any questions or forward pages to you For further information contact Paul Davis or Pat Cripps at 618 453 8796 CLOSED Carrel Policies A limited number of small lockable rooms called carrels are available for law students to reserve in the Law Library Carrels will be shared by up to four people Scheduling time is up to the occupants Some carrels are set aside for handicapped patrons and for library administrative use First priority for carrel occupancy each semester goes to law students meeting the categories below After a short sign up opportunity for these students remaining spaces are made available on a first come basis for other law students Graduate assistants doing research for School of Law professors Law students taking a seminar or any other class that requires a research paper including a faculty approved independent research project Law Journal editors actively engaged in research or editorial work who do not have desk space in the Law Journal office Competitive moot court team members during the semester s of preparation and competition Notices of

  • Qualifying for Illinois Residency | School of Law | SIU
    All documents listed below must be valid for six months before the semester you wish to pay in state tuition Required Documentation a Copy of signed lease or rental agreement including leasing start date which must begin prior to above deadline address of property names on lease and signature b Copy of your Illinois driver s license or state identification card state ID can only be used if you do not have a driver s license c Copy of your Illinois voter registration card or application receipt d Copy of your vehicle registration if you are the sole owner your vehicle must be registered in Illinois 2 Son Daughter regardless of age or spouse of Illinois resident your spouse or parent currently resides and owns leases property in Illinois Required Documentation a Copy of lease or tax bill showing that all taxes or payments have been paid b Copy of your birth marriage certificate indicating your relationship to the property owner lessor c Copy of your spouse parent Illinois driver s license or state identification card 3 Member and or dependent of spouse of the U S Armed Forces living stationed in Illinois entered the Armed Forces as an Illinois resident or you are stationed in Illinois by the Armed Forces Required Documentation a Copy of orders for member dependent or spouse Step 2 According to your classification determine State of Illinois required documents needed for registration Illinois Secretary of State Department of Motor Vehicles Requirements Effective July 1 2010 First time Illinois Driver s License ID Card Applicant An applicant applying for a driver s license or ID card for the first time in Illinois must present Acceptable Identification Documents required by the Secretary of State s office Please note that photocopies are not accepted All applicants must supply

    your request Be sure to get the name of the person you speak with Computer purchase This is a one time allowance up to 1 500 The computer must be purchased from a retail or online retail store You must attach an itemized receipt as proof of purchase along with the Budget Increase for Computer Purchase form Dependent Care Students with dependent children may request additional funds to assist with expenses You must attach a completed Dependent Care form Maintenance prescription drugs Students who are required to take prescription drugs on a maintenance basis may request a budget increase You must attach copies of the maintenance prescription s showing drug name the monthly cost of the prescription s and the doctor prescribing it Medical Dental Optical expenses Students who have necessary medical dental or optical expenses not covered by insurance may request a budget increase Budget increases will only be allowed for necessary treatment You must attach a statement from the provider listing the service performed along with amount paid to provider Private Health Insurance Students who must carry a private health insurance policy because of a pre existing condition may be eligible to add the cost of the insurance to their budget You must attach documentation describing why the student is required to maintain the extra policy and a statement from the insurer showing the current annual premium charged and period covered Bar Expenses Third year law students may request a one time budget increase for expenses paid to take one bar exam this does not include bar preparation Examples of allowable costs are application fees pre registration if applicable to take the exam bar exam only MPRE background check finger printing transcripts 2 night s hotel room during exam You must attach copies of all expenses paid In

  • Bar Loans | School of Law | SIU
    JD students who are or will graduate from an ABA accredited law school are eligible for bar study loans These are private educational loans that can be used to help graduating students cover the costs of their bar preparation courses and bar exam expenses Various lenders have bar loan options with varying amount of borrowing limits generally up to 15 000 Please note that the bar study loan is not part of your financial aid package These loans will be sent via paper check to the borrower directly not to the SIU School of Law Many of these lenders have an online application The application will require school certification which is completed by the Law School Registrar Individuals that are not creditworthy can qualify with a creditworthy co signer International students might also be more limited in their lender choice since some lenders will not allow international students to participate in their bar study loan program You might want to consider using the same lender that you have used for your financial aid package and Stafford lender because you will not be adding an additional lender to repay when you enter repayment for the loans utilized for law school Terms and conditions of bar study loans include Borrow up to 15 000 depending on the lender Must be creditworthy to be eligible or have a creditworthy cosigner Some lenders require that you must have previous borrowing relationship Variable interest rate through the life of the loan Disbursements can be determined by the borrower Disbursements are sent directly to the borrower It is important that the lender has the correct address information as paper checks will be mailed to the borrower directly We do not endorse or recommend one program over the other We do however strongly recommend that you read
