    oral advocacy and brief writing skills Moot Court Board Activities 2013 Domenick L Gabrielli Family Law Moot Court Competition The 2L team of Maggie Molloy Alanna Sosenko and Brittany Meeker were awarded Best Brief The 3L team of Danny Fornoff Annie Mergen and Jim Shovlin were awarded Third Place Brief and Danny was named the Best Oralist Cultural Heritage Moot Court Competition 3L Ben Ford was named the competition s Best Oralist ABA NAAC Regional in St Louis 3L Brandon Powell was recognized as a top 5 oralist among 80 competitors 2012 National Asylum and Refugee Law Competition The SIU Law Asylum and Refugee Law Moot Court Team had an excellent showing in their national competition in Sacramento CA in February 2012 For the third year in a row SIU won the best brief award The award was presented to the 2L team of Brent Colbert Mitchell Martin and Craig Miller Both the 2L team and the 3L team of Jesse Hodierne Stavri Vako and Rebecca Warren won both their preliminary rounds However only the 2L team advanced to the semifinal rounds The 2L team then won their semifinal round advancing to the quarterfinals where they lost to the team that won the entire competition All of the students represented SIU extremely well and are to be commended for their hard work The 2L 3L team group photo from left Mitchell Martin Brent Colbert Craig Miller Stavri Vako Jesse Hodierne and Rebecca Warren Our 2L team won the best brief award again this year Pictured from left Brent Colbert Mitchell Martin and Craig Miller SIU has won awards in this competition every year since we started competing in 2009 2011 National Asylum and Refugee Law Competiton The 2L 3L team group photo from left Rebecca Warren David Aubrey Stavri Vako

    the University of Bayreuth in Germany She taught U S Constitutional Law and U S Common Law Methods to German law students After leaving Germany Fountaine spent the rest of her sabbatical in Amman Jordan working with the American Bar Association s Rule of Law Initiative on legal education reform She taught at the University of Cincinnati College of Law from 1992 97 and during the 2005 06 academic year she was a visiting professor at Washington and Lee University School of Law Prior to teaching Fountaine practiced law at O Melveny and Myers in Los Angeles California where she was a litigator Fountaine holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Indiana University Bloomington and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Southern California Gould School of Law She is an alumna of the Harvard University Institute for Management and Leadership in Education Fountaine focuses her teaching and scholarship on issues relating to the powers of government and access to justice with particular emphasis on the federal courts role in enforcing individual rights In addition her scholarship explores the lawyer s role in assuring effective representation and participation in the judicial system Her areas of expertise include civil procedure federal courts civil rights the jury process complex litigation and legal ethics Fountaine has been active in professional and community service as well Dean Fountaine serves on the Illinois Supreme Court Commission on Professionalism and is a member of the Deans Advisory Committee to the Illinois Supreme Court Commission on Access to Justice In addition she is a member of the Executive Committee of the Association of American Law Schools Section on Women in Legal Education and the chair of the Section s Ruth Bader Ginsburg Lifetime Achievement Award Subcommittee She has been active on various committees of the International
