    crime and legal issues surrounding the globalization of enforcment actions A student blog regarding the experience is available here Students with U S Consul General Niels Marquardt in Sydney Australia In the summer of 2014 Professor Dervan travelled to Dingle Ireland to teach in the SIU School of Law Summer Study Abroad Program His course focused on international criminal tribunals including the International Criminal Court and the development of international criminal law over the last century After teaching in Ireland Professor Dervan travelled to Germany where he lectured regarding international criminal law and white collar crime as part of the SIU School of Law 2014 Alumni Program Nuremberg s Legacy Law Medicine and Ethics In the summer of 2015 Professor Dervan once again offered his course entitled Legal Globalization and Comparative Law Australia International White Collar Crime The 2015 course which had twenty students included several new events in Sydney including a visit to the Supreme Court of New South Wales and a dinner with Australian Aboriginal elders to learn about Australian Aboriginal laws and history A student blog regarding the experience is available here After the Legal Globalization course ended Professor Dervan remained in Sydney to lecture regarding criminal justice issues as part of the SIU School of Law 2015 Alumni Program Law Medicine Down Under Shared Experiences Divergent Paths Professor Dervan with his Students in Sydney Australia in the Summer of 2015 Professional Engagement Based on research he conducted during various prison visits in the United States and during his travels to Israel and The Netherlands Professor Dervan authored an article entitled America s Prison Culture in an International Context An Examination of Prisons in America Israel and the Netherlands The article was recently published in volume 22 of the Stanford Law Policy Review available here In May

    active in international scholarly and professional organizations She has spoken about US legal topics to international audiences and she has spoken at conferences on the topic of globalization of legal education International Teaching Dean Fountaine teaches a course on Legal Globalization and Comparative Law that focuses on current and historical topics of legal significance in Europe with particular emphasis on Germany Students spend the first several weeks of the semester learning about German history culture and legal systems as well as about global governance with particular emphasis on international judicial tribunals Then during Spring Break the class travels to Germany and other countries in Europe Read more here Dean Fountaine with law students at the European Court of Justice Dean Fountaine was a Fulbright Senior Scholar in Germany at the Universität Bayreuth during the 2009 2010 academic year While there she taught courses on U S Constitutional Law and Common Law Legal Analysis as well as gave lectures on various topics In addition she worked with the American Bar Association s Rule of Law Initiative in Amman Jordan as a legal education expert working with law faculties throughout Jordan to help improve legal education in the country Dean Fountaine with colleagues at the University of Bayreuth in Germany Dean Fountaine with graduate students at the Yarmouk University in Irbid Jordan Connecting Students to the Global Community Dean Fountaine is the coordinator of the ABA Section on International Law International Human Rights Committee Russian Law Students Project as such she coordinates Skype sessions between Russian law students at Izhevsk University and U S attorneys judges and law students In 2011 Dean Fountaine and Professor Lucian Dervan traveled to Heidelberg Germany to present a one week lecture series as part of International Week 2011 at SRH Heidelberg University Dean Fountaine and Professor

    Navigation Home Academics Centers Programs International Law Programs Faculty Activities Associate Professor Mark Schultz Share this page Associate Professor Mark Schultz International Teaching Mark Schultz was a visiting professor at the University of Botswana in Gaborone Botswana the week of Mar 11 18 2011 While there he presented two public lectures The Law and Economics of Protecting Traditional Knowledge and Opportunities and Challenges for the Commercialization of Traditional Knowledge While visiting at UB Prof Schultz also spoke to students and worked on a linkage agreement between UB and SIUC which will create opportunities for joint research and exchanges of students and scholars Professional Engagement Professor Schultz presented Professor John Kiggundu who teaches law and business at the University of Botswana with a small gift as a token of appreciation for Kiggundu s visit to SIU and participation on the panel discussion Good News from Africa Success Stories in African Development Democracy and Culture During Kiggundu s visit a memorandum of understanding between SIU Carbondale and the University of Botswana was signed Schultz says that he and Kiggundu are looking forward to building on the relationship to create new opportunities for students and faculty at both schools The University of Botswana
