    Tania Linares class of 2015 spent the summer of 2013 in Chicago interning for the National Immigrant Justice Center s Asylum Project and LGBT Immigrant Rights Initiative While interning with NIJC Tania had the opportunity to do a wide range of activities She was privileged to do everything from conducting intake interviews to drafting briefs to even representing clients in their proceedings Tania had many rewarding experiences while interning stating that Any time any of my clients got released from detention or was granted relief was among her greatest experiences Tania stated that her Lawyering Skills class her first year of law school served her very well and the skills she was taught enabled her to hit the ground running as soon as she arrived at NIJC Having previously volunteered for NIJC as a Spanish interpreter before coming to law school Tania was able to see the tremendous impact NIJC had on the lives of low income immigrants This previous experience with NIJC is one of the experiences that motivated Tania to attend law school in the first place Tania was able to take away many valuable skills from her time at NIJC Tania serves on the SIU Law Journal and feels her work at NIJC has helped improve her writing skills In fact Tania s case note which was inspired by her time at NIJC has been chosen for publication The title of the case note is Inhale Exile Limiting Review of Aggravated Felonies and Crimes Involving Moral Turpitude after Moncrieffe v Holder 133 S Ct 1678 2013 Further Tania was able to gain real world experience and was able to work alongside some of the best immigration lawyers in the country and learn about novel issues in the field Tania would absolutely recommend this program to another student

    eventual downfall at the end of World War II Jessica says she learned so many things while touring the documentation center including the interesting fact that during Hitler s regime brides and grooms were given copies of Mein Kampf which was mass produced with the intention of replacing the Bible in the household While at the Center the students were able to talk to a local professor from the area Jessica says that hearing what he had to say about the Nazi movement from a German perspective was fascinating Further during the Hague portion of the Globalization trip the students were able to tour the European Court of Justice as well as the International Criminal Court The students even had the chance talk to a young woman employed at the European Court of Justice in the Court s documentation center Jessica says she was fascinated by this young woman s job and that experience opened my eyes to international employment Jessica highly recommends SIU Law s Globalization and the Law programs saying I would encourage anyone who is interested to travel or study abroad Travel light eat everything even if it scares you and meet people Remember to do a little research and try to travel polite A little bit of respect for other cultures can go a long way in providing amazing experiences and friendships Keep an open mind and be prepared to sleep when you can including on the train It s worth it I promise Jessica returned to Europe last summer to spend time in London where she had many memorable and valuable experiences as well including a tour of Parliament with Lord Phillips of Sudbury a walking tour of Legal England as well as a tour of the offices of Herbert Freehills one of the most

    Assistance Project providing legal services to migrant workers and their families Alex worked in the southern third of Illinois but MLAP has service areas all over Illinois When he found the opportunity posted on www Illinoisprobono com he knew that this was a one of a kind experience he could not pass up This experience combined his love of gardening with his fluency in Spanish to create a great summer experience that he would recommend to any student that can speak Spanish and has a car While working with MLAP Alex spent a lot of time in his car travelling to various areas throughout Illinois looking for migrant camps with duties including outreach to workers at labor camps and farms intake interviews case management It was a lot like a scavenger hunt said Alex of his experience while it was hot the hours were long and there was a lot of time spent behind the wheel the thrill of walking up to a house in the middle of nowhere and finding the people you were looking for was incredibly rewarding Alex said he felt that being a student of SIU Law gave him a definite advantage over his colleagues from

    electronic media including but not limited to local or wide area networks timesharing services multiple processing units multiple site arrangements service or software rental bureaus list servers online services electronic bulletin boards or forums Web sites or any other server that is Internet enabled without written authorization by BNA d Customer and each User acknowledge that the Licensed Products and the licensed materials contained therein are highly proprietary in nature and that unauthorized copying transfer or use may cause BNA or its licensors irreparable injury that cannot be adequately compensated for by means of monetary damages Customer and each User agree that BNA may enforce any breach of this License Agreement by Customer or any User by means of equitable relief including but not limited to injunctive relief in addition to any other available rights and remedies Unauthorized reproduction transfer and or use may be a violation of criminal as well as civil law e Notwithstanding the foregoing the Licensed Products may be used for purposes of research education or other non commercial use as follows Display Customer and Users shall have the right to electronically display the Licensed Products Digitally Copy Customer and Users may download and digitally copy the Licensed Products as permitted under section 6 b of this Agreement Print Copy Customer and Users may print the Licensed Products as permitted under section 6 b of this Agreement Recover Copying Costs Customer may charge a reasonable fee to cover costs of copying or printing portions of Licensed Products for Users Archival Backup Copy Customer may create one 1 print copy of the entire set of Licensed Products for the sole purpose of maintaining an archival copy of the Licensed Products Course Packs Customer and Authorized Users may use a reasonable portion of the Licensed Products in the preparation of Course Packs Electronic Reserve Customer and Users may use a reasonable portion of the Licensed Products for use in connection with specific courses of instruction offered by Customer Electronic Links Customer may provide electronic links to the Licensed Products from Customer s web page s and is encouraged to do so in ways that will increase the usefulness of the Licensed Products to Users Caching Customer and Users may make such local digital copies of the Licensed Products as are necessary to ensure efficient use by Authorized Users by appropriate browser or other software Scholarly Sharing On an occasional basis Users may transmit to a third party colleague in hard copy or electronically minimal insubstantial amounts of the Licensed Products for personal use or scholarly educational or scientific research or professional use but in no case for re sale broad distribution or on a routine or systematic basis In addition Users have the right to use with appropriate credit figures tables and brief excerpts from the Licensed Products in the User s own scientific scholarly and educational works Interlibrary Loan Customer may fulfill requests from other institutions a practice commonly called Interlibrary Loan Customer agrees to fulfill such requests in compliance with Section 108 of the United States Copyright Law 17 USC 108 Limitations on exclusive rights Reproduction by libraries and archives and clause 3 of the Guidelines for the Proviso of Subsection 108 g 2 prepared by the National Commission on New Technological Uses of Copyright Works Customer agrees to provide the copy in print form and not electronically 7
