    Diversity Feedback Message from the Co Chairs San Jose State has a long tradition of supporting and celebrating diversity and inclusiveness throughout our campus community As co Chairs for the President s Commission on Diversity we are honored and pleased to have the opportunity to lead the university s efforts to expand and enrich this campus legacy Academic Affairs and Student Affairs are partnering to lead this commission because we are committed to ensuring an environment of inclusiveness for all students faculty and staff members as well as the broader community As the Commission begins its second year of work at San Jose State the university remains committed to building an Office of Diversity We are pleased to share that a Title IX coordinator Diana Harris Epps joined the campus this fall We continue the national search for a vice president and chief diversity officer Updates on the search will be available on the president s website We are also pleased to continue our support of the African American Student Success Task Force and the Chicano Latino Student Success Task Force These efforts include students faculty and staff who offer guidance on how we can provide resources and support to underrepresented minorities to achieve their educational goals More importantly these groups help us understand better ways to create a diverse and inclusive environment that makes all of our students feel welcome and connected to the campus community We want to acknowledge the groups that have done and continue to do excellent work to help meet our mission of creating a more diverse and inclusive community the Campus Climate Committee the Unity Council the Faculty Diversity Committee and numerous other student faculty and staff organizations that contribute significantly to the campus and help our vibrant campus succeed We look forward to

    Pizarro a faculty in residence with the Chican Latin Student Success Task Force Dr Michael Cheers a faculty in residence with the African American Student Success Task Force and Dr Rona Tamiko Halualani a professor of communications studies The study was funded by a Fostering the Strategic Use of Data to Improve Student Success grant from the Chancellor s Office President s Commission on Diversity Spring Open Forum April 28 2015 The President s Commission on Diversity held a Spring Open Forum Following the presentation there was an opportunity for questions and answers on the campus work in advancing diversity and inclusive excellence Spring Open Forum Video President s Commission on Diversity Fall Open Forum Oct 8 2014 The President s Commission on Diversity Fall Open Forum was held on October 8 2014 and was moderated by Judge LaDoris H Cordell retired An update was provided on the Action Items from the Special Task Force on Racial Discrimination Toward a More Welcoming Community Questions were answered by the panel Toward a More Welcoming Community SJSU Action Plan May 2014 Administrative and Academic Senate leaders have reviewed each recommendation made by the Special Task Force on Racial Discrimination and created an action plan SJSU Action Plan President s Commission on Diversity Action Item Status Discussion Fall 2015 Detailed Status of Action Items Updated December 2015 Special Task Force on Racial Discrimination Recommendations April 2014 San Jose State continues to strive toward creating and fostering a campus environment that is open and welcoming to a diverse population SJSU retained Myron Mike Moye to conduct independent fact finding regarding a recent incident among several SJSU students in a campus residence hall This fact finding has resulted in the Moye Report PDF In consideration of and based upon the Moye Report and its conclusions
