    a focus on energy conservation and renewable energy sources Typical students careers in this area include energy specialists with utility providers such as PG E and positions in renewable energy companies and municipalities BS in Environmental Studies with a Concentration in Environmental Impact Assessment This concentration provides students with expertise on the California Environmental Quality Act s CEQA intents and implementation Graduates are prepared to be CEQA Specialists in city and county planning departments and consulting firms BS in Environmental Studies with a Concentration in Environmental Restoration and Resource Management This concentration provides students with theoretical and applied knowledge in the management of restoration projects and natural resources especially forests wetlands Graduates are prepared for careers as Environmental Restoration Specialists for park districts municipalities land management agencies government agencies and consulting firms BS in Environmental Studies with a Minor in Climate Change Strategies his is a joint degree with Meteorology Graduates gain knowledge of climate change science and policy solutions for addressing its adverse impacts BA in Environmental Studies with Minor in Energy Policy and Green Building This program provides students with a focus on energy policy and its integration with green building Program prepares graduates for future careers as Energy Policy Specialists and green building consultants BA in Environmental Studies with Minor in Sustainable Water Resources This program provides students with a focus on water supply use treatment and reuse with an emphasis on policy and sustainable management Geographical focus is California and the U S West Program prepares graduates for future careers as Energy Policy Specialists and green building consultants BA in Environmental Studies with a Minor in Park Ranger and Administration This is a joint degree with West Valley Community College Prepares students for positions in park administration and land management BA in Environmental Studies Teacher Preparation Designed to meet the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing requirements for diversified subject matter preparation Prepares students for careers in K 12 education and as environmental educators MS in Environmental Studies This is a rigorous thesis based program in which all students conduct original research on an interdisciplinary environmental issue It is one of the oldest and most well respected interdisciplinary Master s program of its kind in the state and is a particular strength of the University Biological Sciences BS in Biological Sciences Concentration in Conservation and Organismal Biology The Department of Biological Sciences enrolls over 600 undergraduate and 100 graduate majors whose studies range from conservation biology to fisheries management The department is known for its strong undergraduate and master s programs in Conservation and Organismal Biology and recently established a Biodiversity Center involving 11 Department faculty This degree program prepares students for careers in conservation and resource management BS in Biological Sciences Concentration in Marine Biology Prepares students for careers in marine conservation and resource management BA in Life Science Concentration in Biodiversity Stewardship Prepares students for careers in conservation and resource management MS in Biological Sciences Concentration in Organismal Biology Conservation and Ecology Rigorous research based

    SJSU Navigate BACK to Academics Research Degree Programs List of Courses Research Projects Sustainability research at SJSU focuses on ecological integrity economic prosperity and social and intergenerational equity Research projects address a sustainability challenge such as climate change or poverty and further our understanding of the interconnectedness of societal economic and environmental issues Sustainability research promotes culturally appropriate solutions that concurrently support economic prosperity social well being and ecological vitality Research Projects Related to Sustainability Sustainability research is currently being conducted by over 115 SJSU faculty members In addition ongoing sustainability research is conducted at two SJSU affiliated programs Mineta Transportation Institute is a national University Transportation Center and a Center of Excellence specializing in policy studies related to surface transportation MTI offers accredited graduate education programs through its affiliation with San Jose State University s College of Business Moss Landing Marine Laboratories MLML administers the Masters of Science program for a consortium of seven California State University campuses in northern and central California An outfitted Marine Operations department strong research diving program and state of the art equipment allow for cutting edge research in a wide variety of disciplines including marine ecology the biology of marine plants invertebrates fishes

    be a leader in campus sustainability These are some of the projects that we ve already implemented Power SJSU is one of only two CSU campuses with a large Cogeneration facility This facility produces 6MW of electricity steam and chilled water Water Recycled water is used for cooling university buildings and irrigating campus grounds Installing artificial turf at Spartan Stadium has saved 1 million gallons of water each year LEED Certified Buildings The Martin Luther King Jr Library was designed and built to meet LEED Silver standards All new buildings on the SJSU campus will also be designed to LEED Silver standards Transportation Facilities Development Operations has a green fleet of 68 electric maintenance carts Transportation Solutions a branch of the Associated Students dedicated to promoting alternative transportation initiates and promotes programs to reduce auto related trips to campus Currently of those who commute to campus approximately 60 come via alternative transportation Waste Reduction Recycling SJSU has a comprehensive campus recycling program that goes beyond just cans and bottles We also recycle furniture greenwaste computers and electronics paper packaging materials batteries light bulbs and much more In 2009 our waste diversion rate was 91 compared to 59 in 2006 Food

    Sustainability SJSU Sustainable Campus Current Future Projects Current Future Projects MySJSU Canvas Athletics Give to SJSU Navigate BACK to Sustainable Campus What We ve Accomplished Current Future Projects STARS Report Environmentally Preferable Purchasing Sustainability Map Here s a sneak peek at what s next in campus sustainability at SJSU New Construction Projects Both the expanded Student Union and the new Student Health Counseling Facility will meet a minimum of LEED Silver certification standards Each building will include water efficient fixtures a cool roof and recycled water for toilet flushing Building Renovations Several key university landmarks including Tower Hall King Library Moss Landing Marine Laboratories and Spartan Stadium will be renovated for improved energy efficiency and overall sustainability Solar PV Panels SJSU Mechanical Engineering students conducted a feasibility study and five potential buildings were identified for rooftop solar photovoltaic PV panels which could generate a total of 1 million kWh each year Recycled Water Projects Working with the City of San Jose SJSU is working to convert all irrigation piping as well as toilets in the King Library and other new buildings to recycled water which could save up to 65 million gallons of potable water each year SJSU Links and
