    Beethoven Auction Database About Beethoven FAQ on Beethoven Beethoven the Broadwood Fortepiano Beethoven and the Harpsichord Catalogs Beethoven Gateway Art and Media Catalogs Services Access to Collections Permissions and Fees Reproduction Services Events the Community Events Current Events Beethoven s Birthday Celebration First Wednesdays Lecture Series Historic Keyboards Mini Concerts Young Pianist s Beethoven Competition Past Events Community Educational Programs Beethoven Center Facebook Page Support Donating Materials Joining the American Beethoven Society Planned Giving Program Funding Opportunities Digitization Project SJSU Home Beethoven Center Services Access to Collections Access to Collections MySJSU Canvas Athletics Give to SJSU Navigate BACK to Services Access to Collections Loans for Exhibitions Permissions and Fees Reproduction Services Reproductions and Fair Use Guidelines Access to the Beethoven Center s collections The Beethoven Center s reading room houses the open stack collections of books scores microforms recordings and journal articles These materials may be used in the Center during the open hours but may not be checked out Photocopy services may be requested from the staff Media stations with headphones are available for listening to CDs LPs cassettes and viewing VHS tapes and DVDs Patrons are also welcome to use their own laptop computers in the Center for listening to CDs and DVDs provided that they have their own headphones The Beethoven Center s vault collections include manuscripts rare books first and early editions of scores artworks archives and videos Access to these collections should be requested in advance by contacting the Curator or other staff Some materials may not be available on Saturday afternoons Use of computers Visitors are welcome to bring laptop computers for use in the Center Wireless Internet access is available The reading room also has a public computer for searching the Beethoven Gateway using other Internet sites and watching DVDs Use of cameras

    estimate Photocopy services Although none of the Center s materials may be checked out of the library the Center does provide photocopy services of many materials on request Please see our guidelines on fair use regarding photocopying of copyrighted materials The Center does not have a photocopy machine in the reading room so all requests will be handled by staff Same day service may not be possible depending on staff availability The cost of photocopying is 25 cents per page Postage is additional Scanning services The Beethoven Center can provide digitized images of some of its materials by request and through the Digital Beethoven Gateway as outlined below Use of images in the Digital Beethoven Gateway Public domain materials Many of the Center s art collections engravings lithographs sculpture etc manuscripts and rare editions have been digitized and are available for viewing and downloading through the Beethoven Gateway Although materials in public domain may be used without permission we request that the following ownership credit be added to any document website media reproducing the materials From the collections of the Ira F Brilliant Center for Beethoven Studies San José State University Higher resolution images suitable for publication and media presentations may be requested for a fee Copyrighted Material Some materials digitized for the Beethoven Gateway may be under copyright and are provided for research or teaching purposes under the guidelines for fair use Higher resolution images of these materials may be requested for a fee However providing these images is not an authorization to publish If the user wishes to quote publish perform reproduce or otherwise make any use of the material that requires permission for the copyright holder s it is the user s responsibility to obtain all such permissions Requests of digital files for art works and rare

    in America Beethoven Treasures in America MySJSU Canvas Athletics Give to SJSU Navigate BACK to Research Guide to Beethoven Research Resources for Beethoven Research Beethoven Web Resources The Beethoven Journal Beethoven Treasures in America Beethoven Auction Database FAQ on Beethoven Beethoven the Broadwood Fortepiano Beethoven and the Harpsichord Beethoven Gateway Art and Media Catalogs Beethoven Treasures in America The major repositories of Beethoven manuscripts in the United States include the Library of Congress the Pierpont Morgan Library and the Juilliard School of Music Others are scattered in public and private collections around the country In 1927 Oscar G Sonneck published Beethoven Letters in America a book issued by the Beethoven Association in New York that included facsimiles and commentaries on the manuscript letters then known to be in this country at the time Then in 1978 Otto Albrecht published a list of Beethoven Autographs in the United States in Beiträge zur Beethoven Bibliographie ed Kurt Dorfmüller G Henle Verlag pp 1 11 which was an update of his Beethoven list in the Census of Autograph Musical Manuscripts by European Composers in the United States that apeared in 1953 By the end of the twentieth century many Beethoven manuscripts had been discovered sold inherited or donated requiring a massive revision of both Sonneck and Albrecht s lists Patricia Stroh Curator of the Beethoven Center undertook this project in 2000 To provide more complete descriptions of the manuscripts she attempted to examine each one first hand and learn more about its provenance from the current owners Although the project is still under review she offers a preliminary draft of the complete list as she works through the revisions She encourages anyone willing to provide additional information or revisions to the list to contact her Eventually all descriptions of the Beethoven Treasures in
