    General Information Organized research and training units ORUs are established within the University to facilitate the conduct and dissemination of research perform public services and provide special training They serve to fulfill the long range needs and interests of the faculty and the university San José State University has over 30 research units and facilities that partner industry with academic research to enhance technology encourage development of new products and improve education Alphabetical List of Organized Research Units Proposals for New ORUs Proposals for new ORUs should be sent to the Graduate Studies Research GS R Committee via the Office of Research It is recommended that authors allow sufficient lead time before submission of their proposals for obtaining a preliminary review from the Office of Research Proposals should be organized according to and follow the stipulations contained within the ORU Guidelines below A budget template is included with the guidelines to be used for reporting a 5 year financial estimate Once received the proposals will be reviewed by the Office of Research and the GS R Committee with reference to the ORU Checklist also included with the guidelines ORU Guidelines Checklist and Financial Table doc Annual Probationary and Five Year Reporting Requirements Annual reports are required of all established ORUS In addition to annual reports newly established ORUs are required to file a two year report use the five year form below with modifications After the initial two year probationary period ORU directors are required to submit annual reports and five year reports usually early in the fall semester On the fifth year following a five year review both an annual and new five year report are due Each report must be accompanied by a budget report for the period covered They should be sent to the GS R Committee

  • How to Create Effective Surveys: Cutting Edge Innovations | Office of Research | San Jose State University
    the Summer Institute in Political Psychology at Stanford as well as Research Psychologist at the U S Census Bureau Dr Krosnick is also a world recognized expert on the psychology of attitudes especially in the area of politics He is co principal investigator of the American National Election Study the nation s preeminent academic research project exploring voter decision making and political campaign effects For 30 years Dr Krosnick has studied how the American public s political attitudes are formed change and shape thinking and action His publications explore the causes of people decisions about whether to vote for whom to vote whether to approve of the President s performance whether to take action to influence government policy making on a specific issue and much more Another major focus of his research has been on questionnaire design and survey research methods Professor Krosnick has taught courses for professionals on survey methods for 30 years around the world and has served as a methodology consultant to government agencies commercial firms and academic scholars His books include Introduction to Survey Research Polling and Data Analysis and The Handbook of Questionnaire Design forthcoming Oxford University Press which reviews 100 years of research on how different ways of asking questions can yield different answers from survey respondents and on how to design questions to measure most accurately His recent research has focused on how other aspects of survey methodology e g collecting data by interviewing face to face vs by telephone or on paper questionnaires can be optimized to maximize accuracy In addition to the AAPOR Award Dr Krosnick s scholarship has been recognized with the Phillip Brickman Memorial Prize the Pi Sigma Alpha Award the Erik Erikson Early Career Award for Excellence and Creativity two fellowships at the Center for Advanced Study in
