    to students only once during their academic careers at SJSU This scholarship will be disbursed in Fall and is only available to students enrolling at SJSU for that semester Scholarship applicants must demonstrate community service or participation in student organizations Les Francis Scholarship for Civic Education 2 500 Les Francis Scholarship for Civic Education was created by Les Francis and endowed by Mr Francis and his many friends admirers and fellow political consultants The scholarship is intended to support prospective or current teachers of high school civics Applicants must submit an essay stating how the scholarship would assist their career in teaching high school civics a writing sample at least 3 pages in length and an unofficial college academic transcript Awarded annually Download the brochure for the Les Francis Scholarship for Civic Education pdf Gerald Wheeler Scholarship 1 000 Dr Gerald Wheeler is remembered as a superb and versatile teacher and an excellent scholar In his tenure at SJSU Dr Wheeler served as Chair of the History Department Associate Dean of Graduate Studies Dean of the College of Social Sciences and Assistant Academic Vice President The Gerald E Wheeler scholarship was established by family and friends Offered every year by the College this scholarship is based on excellence and need Charles Burdick Scholarships 1 000 Dr Charles Burdick was an internationally known military history scholar former Chair of the History Department and Dean of the College of Social Sciences He earned SJSU s two highest awards for faculty President s Scholar and Outstanding Professor and he twice received CSU s system wide Outstanding Professor Award Offered every year by the College this scholarship is based on excellence and need Inez and Donald Burdick Scholarships 1 000 The Inez and Donald Burdick Scholarships were established by Charles Burdick in honor of his parents Offered every year by the College this scholarship is based on excellence and need Dudley T Moorhead Memorial Scholarship variable amount This scholarship honors the memory of Dudley T Moorhead first Dean of the combined School of Humanities and Arts and Social Sciences Dean Moorhead served as Coordinator of the Social Sciences History Division Dean of the School and Acting Academic Vice President He was also the first president of the Faculty Council now the Academic Senate The University honored his memory by renaming Centennial Hall as Dudley Moorhead Hall Offered every third year by the College this scholarship is based on excellence and need Qualifications and Application for College Scholarships The College scholarships are offered in Spring semester All qualification requirements are given on the scholarship instructions and application which will be available on this page in early February Preference will be given to applicants who meet the following minimum standards 3 50 GPA overall 3 50 GPA at SJSU 3 50 GPA in the major To be considered for any of the above scholarships students must complete a College of Social Sciences Scholarships application form have applied for financial aid and have a Free Application for
