    H A dual degree program This specialized program offers highly motivated students the chance to design a career in the combined fields of law and health administration This degree option opens a number of doors to its recipients including the practice of health law within large private firms or top level executive positions in health care organizations Students receive a wealth of benefits from participation including the chance to enact change in the health care industry as a lawyer and a health care administrator Another benefit is that students obtain both degrees more quickly than if obtained separately roughly four years compared to five Students also are required to complete an administrative internship during the summer between their 4th and 5th semesters to complete the program requirements The summer internship lasts 13 weeks and helps students coordinate their classroom education with practical experience gained in the field This experience is vital to teaching students to become sensitive to the environment needs and functions of the health care industry During the internship students will use their extensive training and practice their administrative skills under direct supervision Students receive their placement in a health care facility after consultation with their faculty advisor Participants in the dual degree program must first complete the basic first year requirements for the School of Law This practice gives students a firm foundation for their legal education After completing the first year law school requirements students will attend classes simultaneously in both the School of Law and College for Public Health and Social Justice for a total of 14 16 hours per semester Students wishing to enter the dual program must fulfill all admission requirements for the School of Law and the College for Public Health and Social Justice They must apply to each separately Students can

    John s Mississippi Mud Coffee Medina Flamingo Bowl Drunken Fish Caruso s Deli Bella s Frozen Yogurt Cafe Smoothie King Home Academics Degree Programs Dual Degree Programs J D Master of Public Health Health Management and Policy Juris Doctor and Master of Public Health Health Management and Policy The School of Law and College for Public Health and Social Justice have partnered to offer students the dual Juris Doctor Master of Public Health degrees in either a generalist track or a degree in health management and policy This custom degree fully prepares highly motivated individuals to work in the rewarding and challenging fields of law and public health This program enables graduates to approach health and legal issues in an interdisciplinary manner Recipients of the degree practice law in a variety of settings including governmental public health agencies private law firms and non profit institutions The program primarily aims to educate students to become preeminent leaders in the special legal needs of public health entities The second aim is to expand advanced education in law and public health to all areas of the state of Missouri and the surrounding region Students wishing to enter the dual program must fulfill all admission requirements for the School of Law and the College for Public Health and Social Justice They must apply to each separately Students may apply to both schools during the same admission period or may wait to apply to the M P H program during their first year in the School of Law A major benefit of this dual degree format is that students obtain both degrees more quickly than if obtained separately roughly four years compared to five Students pursuing the J D M P H must complete between 117 and 121 credit hours depending upon the area of

    Resources STUDENTS Current Students Prospective Students Student Organizations Student Life SLU Zone Planet Sub Papa John s Mississippi Mud Coffee Medina Flamingo Bowl Drunken Fish Caruso s Deli Bella s Frozen Yogurt Cafe Smoothie King Home Academics Degree Programs Dual Degree Programs J D Master of Science in Health Outcomes Research Evaluations Sciences Juris Doctor and Master of Science in Health Outcomes Research Evaluation Sciences The School of Law and the Center for Outcomes Research jointly administer an interdisciplinary J D M S in Health Outcomes Research and Evaluation Sciences The J D M S curriculum is available from the Assistant Director of the Center for Health Law Studies Students can earn the J D M S degree in three and one half years Students complete their first year core curriculum courses in the School of Law Thereafter students attend classes at the School of Law and participate in online courses through the Center for Outcomes Research Students are not permitted to enroll in more than 16 credit hours per semester This 16 credit hour cap is waived during the seventh and final semester of the dual degree program or in exceptional cases by approval of the Director of the M S program and the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs at the School of Law Students must request that nine credits of coursework completed in the Center for Research Outcomes be applied to the 91 credits required to complete a J D by completing the Request for Dual Degree Non Law Credits form available on the School of Law website Students wishing to enter the J D M S program must fulfill all admission requirements for the School of Law and the Center for Outcomes Research and must apply to each program separately Students can apply during their first year

    a Master of Science in Human Resources Law This program provides highly qualified individuals with the opportunity to pursue studies and research on the legal framework of human resources without the time and resource commitment of a three year J D degree The demands of the modern business world require that human resources professionals regularly make decisions with a multitude of legal ramifications in areas such as antidiscrimination and affirmative action minimum wage equal pay and overtime requirements family and medical leave retirement and health care program regulations noncompete agreements and trade secret protections employee privacy workers compensation occupational safety guidelines unemployment compensation and executive compensation structures The Master in Human Resources Law MHRL will provide students with a solid foundation in understanding the law and specialized expertise in those legal topics of most interest to human resources professionals The application deadline for admission in Spring 2016 is November 1 2015 Curriculum and Requirements The Master s in Human Resources Law program is a 30 credit program for non J D students looking to gain expertise in the law relating to human resources The program is designed as either a one year full time course of study or a multi year part time program Master s students begin their studies with Introduction to Legal Analysis MHRL Program a one 1 credit hour course designed to provide the basics of legal reasoning and an understanding of legal institutions Additionally MHRL students must take the core human resources related subjects of Employment Discrimination Employment Relations and Labor Law Legal Research Methods in Human Resources Law will provide a basic understanding of legal research as well as strategies for keeping current and exploring deeper when particular legal issues arise at the workplace The final required course is Advanced Studies in Human Resources MHRL
