    of Naval Intelligence Washington DC Looking into getting reserve commission Would love to hear from any SC grads with military backgrounds Tom s e mail is tjflar rcn com David McEttrick G 03 LT JG After completing boot camp in Newport Dave will be continuing his military training in Pensacola where he will work in aerospace physiology Dave s e mail is DMMCETTRICK msn com Rick Davis 72 wrote on July 22 that his Army Reserve unit had been mobilized He would enjoy hearing from other SC grads at the following address SSG Rick Davis 7238th USA MSU e mail richard b davis us army mil Leo H Mahoney 80 wrote on July 7 2003 that he entered the US Army through the Army Baylor Program in Physical Therapy Nine tours of duty and over twenty years later I find myself still in camouflage as Chief Physical Therapy at the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center LRMC located in the German State of Rheinland Pfalz 7 miles west of Kaiserslautern and 3 miles south of Ramstein Air Base LRMC is the largest American hospital outside of the United States and the only American tertiary hospital in Europe We routinely provide primary and tertiary care hospitalization and treatment for more than 100 000 American military personnel and their families within the center s boundaries LRMC also provides specialized care for the more than 250 000 additional American military personnel and their families in the European Theater However things all changed after 11 September 2001 To date LRMC has performed superlatively in the incredibly demanding and ongoing mission to provide medical treatment to over 2 300 casualties injured during Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan and Operation Iraqi Freedom in Iraq and Kuwait On a daily basis we evaluate and treat numerous gun shot shrapnel motor vehicle burn and other injuries falls near drowning and parachute landing falls All of our POW s have come through LRMC The work is long and hard but I feel both a great sense of personal reward and pride to be doing my part in helping to support our soldiers marines sailors and airmen And when the work is done for the day I feel truly blessed to go home to my wife Louise and our 9 year old son Leo III Leo H Mahony LTC SP Chief Physical Therapy LRMC Physical Therapy Consultant ERMC Mark R Savarese 77 wrote on 4 10 that he is presently engaged in the Persian Gulf aboard the USS Bonhomme Richard commanding all United States Marine Corps AV 8B Harriers and flying combat sorties in support of the President s effort to combat global terrorism free the Iraqi people as well as preserve our way of life at home It was a nice break to read about my alma mater on the Springfield College Massasoit Monthly and all the wonderful events back home Springfield College leading the pack I would expect no less Thank you again for sending it Semper Fidelis Colonel Mark

    Jimenez G 98 In Asimakopoulos presentation titled Keys and Secrets of International Mega Events he shared his experiences working as an event operational manager for Mega Multisport International events including the Olympics Paralympics and Special Olympics He also served as a senior consultant of International Mega events including European Games and the FIFA World Cup Asimakopoulos recapped his experience as general manager in the mass sport international market for the Hellenic Athletics Federation s Athens Marathon The Authentic Monacada Jimenez collaborated professionally with universities in the United States Mexico and Switzerland His presentation Person SC Compass Equals a Formula for Success focused on how the College has helped him prepare to serve in his current role of director for the University of Costa Rica Human Sciences Research Center and member of the university s Institutional Ethics Committee Cheung who is coordinator of graduate studies for the Hong Kong Baptisit University Department of Physical Education will present A Bridge from East to West shared her vast international educational experiences She is a prolific researcher having written more than 40 referred articles and 15 books and book chapters Getting the day started was former director of the Doggett International Center and Professor Dr Ken Wall G 73 DPE 75 who assisted in welcoming attendees to the event and introduced the keynote speakers During lunch there were roundtable discussions following a presentation by associate professor of sport management and recreation Robert Accorsi s G 80 about the College s connection to the Paralympics For more than a century Springfield College presidents students alumni and athletic teams have traveled the globe building relationships conducting educational and sports programs and receiving governmental and humanitarian awards Today more than 600 Springfield College alumni reside in 65 countries outside the United States Celebrating its 50 th anniversary
