    education can be the answer to creating a prosperous successful community of thinkers and doers In addition to her administrative leadership she takes seriously her role as a mentor to and advocate for students women and athletes Prior to her arrival at Springfield College Cooper served as the senior vice president of student affairs the chief student affairs officer responsible for the delivery of student services and campus life at Rochester Institute of Technology RIT in New York from 2001 2013 In addition to that administrative post Cooper served as distinguished lecturer in the RIT College of Business and as an adjunct professor in the University of Rochester Warner School of Education Cooper joined RIT in 2001 after having been dean of students at the University of Rochester since 1997 Prior to that she was vice president for student affairs at St John Fisher College also in Rochester Cooper was instrumental in significantly improving student satisfaction at RIT an increase of 24 percent from 2002 to 2012 as measured by the National Survey of Student Engagement She played a major role in moving men s and women s hockey to the NCAA Division I level from Division III Cooper also co led the RIT President s Commission on Women to improve the campus climate for women and is a past recipient of the RIT Four Presidents Distinguished Public Service Award An active member of the Rochester community Cooper was named one of Rochester s most influential women by the Rochester Business Journal in 2005 This honor recognizes the achievements of women who work in the highest ranks of Rochester organizations and make or influence policy decisions She also served as the chair of the board for the YMCA of Greater Rochester and co chair of the Tocqueville Society of the

    It s a place where tradition meets progress Where first year students still wear beanies during orientation Where people greet each other as they walk the campus and where service to others is our daily mantra And where we maintain our traditions even as we focus on the future to be sure that our students are ready to become the best possible citizens in their communities across the nation said Cooper Cooper went on to add It is almost overwhelming to a newcomer like me I have never seen a campus such as this one Words like special and unique seem not to do it justice To truly know this campus and its culture of caring one must experience it Cooper concluded her speech explaining It will be through the collaborative efforts of everyone who calls Springfield College home to help Springfield College prosper in the future I will need your help we will work together As we embark on this collaboration you can and should expect to hear what is being discussed and where we are thinking of going We need to talk about our opportunities and consider our hardest challenges This is a conversation we all need to have together In addition to remarks by President Cooper Springfield College Student Trustee Ariel Zaleski added Over the past few months Dr Cooper has been a shining light on this campus Her light has cast rays of possibility for Springfield She immediately created a strong bond with the students and it was evident very quickly that the students were and will be of the highest priority to her Zaleski concluded by saying I stand before you as Student Trustee As a representative for my peers As a voice for my fellow students I stand before you all to give you
