    Residence Life Housing and Residence Life Incoming First Year Student Information Incoming Student Information FAQs Housing Information Graduate Housing Room Draw Incoming Student Information Links for Incoming Students Student Housing Options Frequently Asked Questions What to Bring Campus Map Important Information Dear Student Congratulations and welcome to Springfield College We believe education outside of the classroom is as important as formal learning within the classroom One vital part of that experience can be found by living on campus Because we believe in the importance of the residential experience all students are required to live on campus through their junior year We hope the information in this booklet will help you make an informed decision when choosing the place which will become your new home away from home Your residence hall serves as the site of exciting and valuable learning as well as the focal point for making friends studying and having fun Most new students live in double rooms which allows you to learn useful skills such as how to live with a roommate compromise and respect one another s needs Below are your housing options based on your class status First year students may elect to live in one of three first year buildings Gulick Hall large coed Reed Hall medium coed or Massasoit Hall small coed Due to the unpredictability of incoming class numbers it is possible some first year students will be placed in Lakeside Hall Transfer students may elect to live in Abbey Appleton Hall mid size coed building Alumni Hall all male building International Hall large coed building Lakeside Hall the Living Center juniors and seniors only Senior Suites seniors only or the Townhouses seniors only Please be aware that whatever items you bring with you e g stereo TV computer etc are not insured

    account with their first and last name student ID number the requested roommate s first and last name and the same residence hall preferences Included within this email should be a brief statement indicating that they have identified a roommate and would like to live with them The staff cannot accommodate roommate requests via phone Roommate requests must be submitted by Monday June 22 Current Students Current students will participate in a room draw process that occurs during the academic year Students are encouraged to choose a roommate prior to this process and choose a room together All students receive detailed information about the room draw process well in advance of the process How do students receive mail on campus Students may receive mail in their campus mailbox which is located in the Flynn Campus Union or in the basement of Locklin Hall The main post office is located in the basement of Locklin Hall Students will be given their mailbox code or key during New Student Orientation How are residence halls staffed Residence halls are staffed with area coordinators and graduate students who serve as resident directors In addition each floor or wing of every residence hall is supervised by a resident assistant Resident assistants are upper class students who serve as mentors and support for residents in their respective building Overnight security is provided at the entrance of all residence halls excluding the Townhouses between the hours of 6 p m and 7 a m Can students have cars on campus Sophomores juniors seniors and graduate students may have cars on the campus First year students may not have a car on the campus without the approval of the Department of Public Safety Students must register their vehicle with the Department of Public Safety and receive a parking decal for the academic year Are there single rooms available Single rooms at Springfield College are limited but available We believe that living with a roommate is an essential part of the college experience and the educational growth of our students Single rooms are assigned first by need then by request What happens if a student and their roommate don t get along Students are encouraged to work out differences as a part of their learning and growth process Students who are having difficulties are encouraged to discuss the matter with their resident assistant resident director and or area coordinator Requests for room changes may be accommodated on a case by case basis Please note that due to a housing freeze room switches are not permitted until the third and fourth week of each semester This is to allow time for students to get to know one another and for residence life staff to process withdrawals and finalize available spaces before room switches begin Students can speak to their resident director area coordinator or staff member from the Office of Housing Residence Life for additional information on our room change process What should students do if their hall is too
