    and the Decorative Arts in France Art Nouveau to Le Corbusier Yale University Press 1991 Couture Culture A Study in Modern Art and Fashion MIT Press 2003 and most recently The Afterlife of Piet Mondrian University of Chicago Press 2013 In this book about Mondrian after his death in 1944 Troy examines the trajectories of the artist s work and legacy as they circulated through the realms of elite and popular culture and she explores the ways in which the dominant historical narrative of Mondrian and his work has been shaped by art market forces Professor Troy received her PhD from Yale University in 1979 and thereafter taught at The Johns Hopkins University 1979 83 Northwestern University 1983 93 and the University of Southern California 1994 2010 A past president of the National Committee for the History of Art she was Editor in Chief of the flagship art history journal The Art Bulletin from 1994 to 1997 She has been awarded many fellowships most notably from the Guggenheim Foundation the American Council of Learned Societies the Getty Research Institute the Institute for Advanced Study and the Center for Advanced Study in the Visual Arts At Stanford Professor Troy teaches courses on modern European and American art architecture and design cubism modern art and fashion art business and the law the art market and topics generated by the collections and exhibitions of the Cantor Arts Center and the Art and Architecture Library Work The Afterlife of Piet Mondrian Dec 2013 Couture Culture A Study in Modern Art and Fashion Jan 2003 Modernism and the Decorative Arts in France Art Nouveau to Le Corbusier Jan 1991 The De Stijl Environment Jan 1983 Related News Jul 9 2014 Stanford Report Nancy J Troy uncovers commodity culture in Mondrian s legacy From Yves St

    ARTHIST 1A Introduction to the Visual Arts Prehistoric through Medieval or ARTHIST 1B Introduction to the Visual Arts History of Western Art from the Renaissance to the Present during their freshman or sophomore year Fields Of Study and Degree Options Students who wish to declare the major in Art History do so on Axess Concentrations within the major are approved by the faculty adviser and are not declared on Axess Sample concentrations include Topical concentrations art and gender art politics race and ethnicity art science and technology urban studies Genre concentrations architecture painting sculpture film studies prints and media decorative arts and material culture Historical and national concentrations ancient and medieval Renaissance and early modern modern and contemporary America Africa Asia the Americas Interdisciplinary concentrations art and literature art and history art and religion art and economics art and medicine with adviser consent a maximum of two concentration courses may be taken outside the department Degree Requirements For the most up to date information about requirements for the Art History major please click the link below to the Stanford Bulletin BA Art History Degree Requirements Art History Minor A student declaring a minor in Art History must complete 25 units of course work in one of the following four tracks Open Modern Asian or Architecture Upon declaring the minor students are assigned a faculty adviser with whom they plan their course of study and electives A proposed course of study must be approved by the faculty adviser and placed in the student s departmental file Only one class may be taken for credit outside of the Stanford campus this includes courses taken in the Overseas Studies Program Minors are required to attend an orientation session presented by the professional staff of the Art and Architecture Library which introduces the tools
