    Lecturers Graduate Students Staff About the Department Osei Boakye Osei Boakye Field Africa Transnational International and Global History Dissertation Topic Aid debt development international financial institutions political economics Contact Email oseibo stanford edu Highlights I am Osei Boakye OHR SAIR BWA CHE known in some circles as Bob Johnson and I am Interested in aid debt development political economics and international financial institutions IFIs such as the IMF World Bank etc and the role IFIs play in all four of those areas I am using Ghana a s my mode of investigation to showcase the dramatic effects poor decisions made by IFIs their partner countries and aid recipients have had in emerging states in those state s maturing phase I am looking in particular at Ghana s political economic history from about 1947 to 1977 culminating in their default on several international loans and their unilateral declaration of a moratorium on other loans I am interested in the historical steps that led to that state of affairs and what structural issues were lacking causing the instability of Ghana s post independence economy My goal is to link that history to the current state of affairs in Ghana About About the
