  • From the Director: A Farewell to Stanford | Stanford Live
working in this incredible space is a highlight I will never forget Attendance has increased our support has grown both dramatically and we ve expanded our program Approximately 175 000 tickets have been issued to Bing the 2013 opening We ve hosted star performers ranging from Yo Yo Ma and Joshua Bell to Sheryl Crow and Audra McDonald and presented premieres by John Adams Steve Reich Laurie Anderson and Stanford composers Jonathan Berger and Jaroslaw Kapuscinski The annual number of households attending performing arts presented by Stanford has doubled as has the number of Stanford student tickets issued And Stanford Live s first three years at Bing have seen a 50 increase in the annual number of tickets issued since before the hall opened Another milestone was the creation of Live Context Art Ideas Leveraging the university s deep intellectual and artistic resources the series highlights the ideas that inform great works of art being performed there each season The recent world premiere of The Demo was a prime example The pre performance conversation we hosted with public thinkers Jaron Lanier and Sebastian Thrun raised ethical issues about technology that created a resonance around the event I m looking forward
