    work experience in a culturally diverse and international environment At the same time Stanford engineering students are able to build relationships with engineering focused companies non governmental organizations or top tier universities Summer Engineering and Technology International Internships SETII Through SETII Stanford SoE undergraduate and graduate students can spend the summer interning internationally Internships are offered in such countries as China and India and typically last from mid June until the beginning of September Summer Engineering and Technology Study Tours SETS SETS allows undergraduate and graduate students to go on a two week tour to a country with a developing economy Students gain first hand insights into technology and engineering based businesses inside developing economies with a faculty member and TA Students have had the opportunity to go to countries as Brazil and India and for Summer 2016 SETS will b going to China and South Africe Offered in partnership with BOSP Participants will earn 2 units The Summer Service Learning Program SSLP Through SSLP undergraduate and graduate students can travel to Uganda or Argentina for five weeks to contribute to infrastructure development and or food security Students will also have the opportunity to take a 1 unit seminar that offers an introduction to service learning for Stanford engineering students Through SSLP Stanford engineers establish a standard foundation in service learning and will learn about the relationship between service and sustainable development The Undergraduate Visiting Research UGVR Program for undergraduate students in Tsinghua and Peking University interested in working with Stanford faculty on research in the summer The Ph D Research Exchange Program REP in which faculty can sponsor a 3 6 month exchange of Ph D students between Stanford and either Tsinghua or Peking University Our purpose with these programs is to enhance engineering education by providing students with

    Michael Si in Shanghai Joel Aguero in Beijing and Mengyao Yuan in Taiwan Description The Summer Engineering and Technology International Internship SETII Program aims to enhance engineering education by providing undergraduate Coterm Master s and Ph D students with an opportunity to learn about developing economies and to gain real world work experience in a culturally diverse and international environment We work closely with companies to match Stanford students to internships offered through this program In addition we encourage engineering students that are seeking their first experience abroad as interns to apply as well For summer 2016 SETII will allow students to go not only to China but also India Program Dates June 20 September 9 2016 Eligibility Students must be declared majors in the School of Engineering Current freshmen are eligible to apply as long as they will have earned 45 credits by the end of spring quarter prior to the program In addition we encourage engineering students that are seeking their first experience abroad as interns to apply as well Seniors are eligible to apply as undergraduates as long as they do not have their undergraduate degrees conferred before the end of summer quarter summer quarter enrollment not required Graduates including coterms are eligible to apply as long as they do not have there degree conferred before the end of summer quarter For summer graduation requirements including details regarding enrollment requirements and information about participation in the June commencement ceremonies students should contact their major department s student services Other sources of information and advice are the Student Services Center for university requirements and procedures and for undergraduates Darlene Lazar Engineering Office of Student Affairs and the VPUE International students must check with the Bechtel International Center whether or not their immigration status will allow them to participate

    2016 Companies Interview and Confirm Offers Mid late March 2016 Students Deadline To Accept Offer End of March 2016 Internship Program Dates June 20 September 9 2016 Program Costs Salary Housing Airfare Students in the SETII program will receive a salary and housing or housing allowance from the host company Though your salary amount and housing arrangement will vary from company to company at a minimum the compensation will be sufficient to cover housing local meals transportation and other basic living expenses The estimated support from companies is about USD 3 000 for the summer period If the host does not provide airfare Stanford will provide round trip airfare to and from the city in which student s internships will take place All students will be required to provide their own health insurance for the duration of their stay Language Preparation For our internships in China our goal is to leave the program open to both students who do not yet speak Chinese and to those who do however language skill in Standard Chinese Mandarin is essential for Stanford students living in China Therefore the School of Engineering provides a custom language course through the Stanford Language Center CHINLANG 31E Accelerated Beginning Mandarin for Engineering during spring quarter The course will meet 3 to 4 hours per week and must be taken for a minimum of three units of credit Students should register for CHINLANG 31E with the option of letter grade or CR NC This course requirement will be waived for students who have already taken at least one quarter of Mandarin or for students with equivalent experience Orientation Visas Pre departure orientations will be provided through the program You are required to make sure to have a passport that is valid six months after date of departure with

    Primary links About Research Faculty Admissions Education Collaborations SETII Program Recommendation Home Student Portal Global Engineering Programs Programs Summer Engineering and Technology International Internships Program Recommendation SETII 2016 RECOMMENDATION INSTRUCTIONS Please ensure recommendation form is submitted on or before Sunday January 31 2016 at 11 59 PM This is expected to be a very competitive program and your recommendation will provide important input to our decision process One cannot request a recommendation before submitting one s application so please plan accordingly to submit application earlier so recommenders have time to submit on or before the deadline For instructions with visuals please open the SOLO Application System Recommendation Process document under Docs and Downloads 1 Go to solo stanford edu then log into the application system using the Login button in the upper right corner of the screen 2 Once you have logged in you will see in the top left corner a link to your account It will say My Account click it 3 Scroll down your account page and you will see the Submitted Needs Action box listing each of your applications in the system and the Request Recommendation button for each application Click the button for the appropriate application 4 Your Recommendation Form will pop up This is where you will send an email to your recommender If your recommender is from Stanford please use their email address with their SUID We recommend that you explain a bit about the program position and what you would like the recommender to highlight in the message portion 5 Your recommender will recieve an email with your request message and other information It is up to you to remind your recommender to complete their recommendation by the deadline You may also download the form in doc format here print and mail
