    success Welcome Home Community Global Engagement The Martin Institute for Law Society The Center for Nonprofit Management The Farm at Stonehill The Carole Calo Gallery H O P E Service Immersion Program Community Service Post Graduate Service Community Based Learning The Life You Change Will Be Your Own Changing the world might seem like a daunting goal but it s something Stonehill students do every day in ways big and small Athletics Recreational Sports NCAA Athletics Recreational Sports A Tradition of Athletic Excellence The Stonehill Skyhawks compete in the Northeast 10 Conference the largest NCAA Division II conference in the country Home News Media Monday Morning Update Monday Morning Update October 19 2015 Our First Bishop Last week Pope Francis appointed Rev Arthur Colgan C S C 68 as auxiliary bishop of the Diocese of Chosica in the ecclesiastical province of Lima Peru He is our first alumnus to be named a bishop in the Catholic Church A former trustee Fr Colgan has spent his religious life serving the poor in Peru When he received the Outstanding Alumnus Award in 1993 in recognition of his dedication to building a church that ministers to the poor he was hailed as a man of hope in a time of tribulation For more visit here Shakespeare s Popularity With a premier Shakespearean acting company coming to campus shortly for a week s residency and to perform A Midsummer s Night Dream we asked English Professor Helga Duncan why Shakespeare remains so popular today and what attracts modern audiences to the Bard s work She has three fun and informative answers To read them visit here Victims Perpetrators When Holocaust survivor Tomi Reichental visits Stonehill on October 27 he will explain what prompted him to reach out in reconciliation to Hilde Michnia one of his SS guards at Bergen Belsen concentration camp Ultimately Michnia rebuffed Reichental who lost 35 family members in the Holocaust Although not successful in the way he had hoped for Reichental did not search in vain as he met adult children and grandchildren of Holocaust perpetrators who embraced his quest for reconciliation and remembrance Provost Joe Favazza who specializes in the study of reconciliation and forgiveness will facilitate the conversation at the event For more on this free public presentation visit here Arrest Made After a three week investigation the Stonehill College Police Department with the assistance of the Massachusetts State Police and the Easton Police Department arrested a suspect in the case of the threatening note left in a campus bathroom last month The suspect who is enrolled at the College was arraigned in Taunton District Court on Friday and is being detained in the Bristol County House of Correction He has been interim suspended from the College and is restricted from campus Local Politics In the Pettit Atrium tonight from 7 p m to 8 p m Democratic Republican and independent candidates for the 2nd Plymouth and Bristol Senate will be discussing the issues at a forum moderated

    Service Post Graduate Service Community Based Learning The Life You Change Will Be Your Own Changing the world might seem like a daunting goal but it s something Stonehill students do every day in ways big and small Athletics Recreational Sports NCAA Athletics Recreational Sports A Tradition of Athletic Excellence The Stonehill Skyhawks compete in the Northeast 10 Conference the largest NCAA Division II conference in the country Home News Media Monday Morning Update Monday Morning Update October 5 2015 Shakespearean Actors Beginning on October 26 Actors From The London Stage a top Shakespearean acting company will be on campus for a week during which time they will offer 20 workshops classes to students as well as performances of A Midsummer Night s Dream on October 28 29 and 30 at 7 p m in Hemingway Theatre The company s innovative workshops engage students across the disciplines with the actors cultivating an appreciation of Shakespeare s works both on the page and on the stage More importantly they enhance students critical reading and thinking abilities as well as developing their presentation and team building skills In Professor Helga Duncan s Shakespeare course for example the actors will aid her class in working through the questions of gender desire and power in A Midsummer Night s For more visit here Healthcare Outreach When Pope Francis spoke at the UN recently Bob Simpson 93 and his wife Linda were among the guests invited by the Vatican s UN mission Later this year Vatican officials will present the couple with its Path to Peace award in recognition of their healthcare outreach in Ecuador Past recipients include world leaders such as Lech Walesa Corazon Aquino and Kofi Annan In memory of their son who was killed by a drunk driver the Simpsons created Project Perfect World in 1995 and since then the nonprofit has provided surgical and other medical care to children in need throughout the world A healthcare administrator major at Stonehill Simpson is President CEO of LeeSar a successful healthcare supply chain management company Based in Fort Myers LeeSar offers internships to two Stonehill students every year BioBlitz On Sunday morning under the leadership of Biology Professor Nicholas Block 50 students and faculty members joined with advanced science students from Brockton HS for the first ever BioBlitz at Stonehill By identifying the many plant and animal species on campus the project has established a biodiversity baseline something which can be built on in the future and can drive lesson plans in biology and environmental courses Post Blitz the teams reconvened at the Shields Science Center to review checklists and discuss findings The Brockton HS students received guided tours of the Shields Science Center as well Outstanding Record The New England Psychological Association NEPA has awarded psychology major Candace Crocker 16 with an Honorary Undergraduate Scholar Award which recognizes students with outstanding undergraduate records in psychology Crocker will receive the award at NEPA s Annual Meeting at Fitchburg State University later this month
