    Be Your Own Changing the world might seem like a daunting goal but it s something Stonehill students do every day in ways big and small Athletics Recreational Sports NCAA Athletics Recreational Sports A Tradition of Athletic Excellence The Stonehill Skyhawks compete in the Northeast 10 Conference the largest NCAA Division II conference in the country Home Offices Services Academic Services Advising Academic Support Academic Support Stonehill has a number of policies and resources in place to help support students and guide them towards academic success It is the role of The Office of Academic Services Advising to ensure that students are aware of these resouces and prepared to benefit from the services that are available In addition to the resources outlined below OAS A offeres individual consultations resources and group programs on time management test taking strategies notie taking and test anxiety throughout the year Resources for Students Resources for Faculty Academic Integrity Academic Support Forms Worksheets Our Staff Contact Info Academic Services Advising Duffy Academic Building Room 104 Stonehill College 320 Washington Street Easton MA 02357 Phone 508 565 1306 Fax 508 565 1492 academicservices stonehill edu Hours Monday Friday 8 30 a m 4 30 p m Student Support Many good students have difficulty with certain courses for one reason or another If you are experiencing difficulty in a particular course or just need help balancing your academic commitments the Office of Academic Services Advising is available to help connect you to the resources you may need In these circumstances we often recommend taking the following initial steps Make an appointment with your instructor to discuss your status in the course and make a plan to improve your performance Make an appointment with the OAS A to discuss the best way to address your concerns and find the assistance you need The OAS A will help connect you with the appropriate resources and can work with you to strengthen learning skills such as motivation goal setting time management note taking reading for information selecting main ideas test preparation and anxiety reduction Reach out to the Center for Writing Academic Achievement to see if they offer tutoring hours in your subject If not you can request an individual subject tutor Assess what is going on outside the classroom Your emotional and physical well being has great bearing on your ability to succeed academically More about counseling health and wellness services Know the pro s con s and deadline of a withdrawal option You can discuss taking this route with an advisor in the OAS A Mid Semester Assessments Mid semester assessments provide new students with an indication of their performance and the potential need for additional academic support at the mid point of the semester Faculty are required to give each first year student and first semester transfer student an assessment by the midpoint of the semester Mid semester assessments for all first year students and first semester transfer students in every course taken for credit must be

    edu Hours Monday Friday 8 30 a m 4 30 p m Academic Advising at Stonehill At Stonehill advising is organized by major New students are assigned a faculty advisor based on their academice interests and always have the option to change as their intersts evolve Those students who are exploratory or undecided on a major are assigned an advisor that can help them explore their interests The goal of the advising program is to guide and empower students towards the identification and fulfillment of their academic personal and professional goals Students can request a specific advisor by filling out a change of advisor form available in our office or on our forms page Additionally students are also welcome to request a secondary advisor with whom they have a strong mentoring relationship Students and advisors should meet at least every semester to discuss course selection degree progress career planning and academic progress What do Academic Advisors assist with During the course registration period Providing you with course recommendations and your individual pin number which is required to register for courses Providing guidance in selecting courses that will help you to make progress towards the Cornerstone Program your chosen major s minor exploring an area of interest Planning for program goal and interest exploration in future semesters Clarifying the timeline for adding dropping courses or withdrawing from a course available on the academic calendar Beyond registration Articulating personal and professional goals for your college career Helping to interpret the Stonehill curriculum and creating a 4 year academic plan Guidance for choosing the right major or minor Identify strategies for becoming successful in a course where you may be struggling Connecting you with other on campus resources for academic support Navigating an Advising Session Prepare Reflect Prior to taking the next steps with your course selection set aside some time to consider your progress and options Are you happy content and excited about your trajectory Are you enjoying your current courses What is it that you do or do not like about them Do you have any new areas of interest that you would like to explore further Who can be a resource and mentor to you as you continue to grow Be ready to talk to your advisor about these considerations In advance of the meeting review your myAudit and see what courses you still need to complete Come prepared with a list of possible courses you would like to take with times and sections that work for your schedule Make a list of any questions you may have prior to the meeting to make sure you do not forget anything while you are there The more prepared you are the easier it will be for your advisor to assist you through the advising session Review myAudit on myHill Review Cornerstone Program Review major requirements Communicate It is very important to communicate effectively with your advisor Whether it is for course advisement academic difficulties or general questions it is up to
