    Service Community Based Learning The Life You Change Will Be Your Own Changing the world might seem like a daunting goal but it s something Stonehill students do every day in ways big and small Athletics Recreational Sports NCAA Athletics Recreational Sports A Tradition of Athletic Excellence The Stonehill Skyhawks compete in the Northeast 10 Conference the largest NCAA Division II conference in the country Home Offices Services Stonehill Service Corps Honduras Program Suspended Stonehill Service Corps Honduras Program Suspended Brockton Dominican Republic India Honduras Program Suspended Apply Provide a Reference Contact Info Kris Silva Director Stonehill Service Corps 508 565 1559 ksilva stonehill edu Alicia s Blog Honduran Mission Blog Follow Us on Facebook Previous Next The Honduras program has been suspended due to a U S State Department Travel Warning Click here to view the Travel Warning Through the Stonehill Service Corps Honduras program Corps members serve with the Guimaca Mission founded and operated by the Dominican Sisters of the Presentation Responsibilities Corps members work as teachers tutors at the Marie Poussepin Center an all girls school for approximately 70 young women in grades 7 12 in Guaimaca Honduras Opportunities to participate at Nazareth Farm and Santa Rosa Clinic may also be available Living in together in a modest home in Guiamaca the Corps members commit to the program s tenants of service spirituality simple living and community The service term is January to November The Guaimaca Mission Marie Poussepin Center The Marie Poussepin Center CMP received its first class of girls in 2005 offering not only room and board but also formation in Christian values and catechesis and training in computers sewing cooking organic agriculture and English The young women ages 12 to 20 receive education during the week and return to their homes for the weekend Most travel long distances on foot buses or trucks It is not uncommon for these young women to leave their homes at 3 AM to arrive at school by 9 AM The Center encourages the young women to become leaders in their communities Santa Rosa Clinic The clinic assists approximately 40 patients a day who come from distant areas seeking help Children are supported by a soy formula that helps them gain weight For a requested donation of 1 50 people receive a consult and all the medications prescribed For many this is the only healthcare they can afford Clinical Staff Two Sisters and trained people from the community provide the necessary services The clinic receives about four medical teams from the United States each year These teams bring specialists such as dentists obstetricians and gastroenterologists Several Honduran dentists offer their services once or twice monthly Nazareth Farm Nazareth Farm has an extension of 227 acres The majority of the farm is pine forest with 22 acres devoted to agricultural lands Two green houses grow the seeds for many area farmers Tomatoes bell peppers sweet potatoes and plantains are harvested and sold nationally and internationally They have also had crops

    Spiritual Life Student Organizations More than a College We re Family Stonehill is a friendly caring place where people are embraced for being themselves More than 90 percent of students live on campus helping each other meet challenges and find success Welcome Home Community Global Engagement The Martin Institute for Law Society The Center for Nonprofit Management The Farm at Stonehill The Carole Calo Gallery H O P E Service Immersion Program Community Service Post Graduate Service Community Based Learning The Life You Change Will Be Your Own Changing the world might seem like a daunting goal but it s something Stonehill students do every day in ways big and small Athletics Recreational Sports NCAA Athletics Recreational Sports A Tradition of Athletic Excellence The Stonehill Skyhawks compete in the Northeast 10 Conference the largest NCAA Division II conference in the country Home Offices Services Sustainability Green Events Green Events The Sustainability fair is a campus wide event held on the quad weather permitting and organized by Students for Environmental Action During Grab the Green Week Stonehill Dining Services suspended the use of all plastic to go containers Reusable containers were allowed and provided by student educators who remained in the main Dining Commons all week to educate and spread the message of sustainable food systems Sara Boukdad is extremely excited to represent the Eco Reps program at the sustainability fair The band Darlingside jams for justice alongside students at the 2013 annual Jamnesty event Previous Next Sustainability Initiatives Energy Efficiency Initiatives Listing of Environmental Events Environmental Stewardship Council Green Events Green Student Groups Green Fund St Francis Pledge Waterfest Waterfest is sponsored and organized by Activism Club and features games performances and demonstrations by multiple student groups on campus educating the Stonehill community about the privatization of water and generating awareness about other global water issues Stop the Drop Sponsored by Residence Life and as a part of an ongoing effort to reduce water usage on campus residence halls partake in the Stop the Drop campaign where they compete against one another to see which hall can conserve the most water Overall in Stop the Drop 2013 students cut usage by 12 with the winning reshall O Hara Hall cutting usage by an astounding 32 Sustainability Fair The Sustainability fair is a campus wide event held on the quad weather permitting and organized by Students for Environmental Action The sustainability fair occurs once a semester and features student groups class projects department groups and vendors associated with the college that are working to promote and incorporate sustainability on campus Frequent vendors include Ben and Jerry s Stonyfield and the band Melodeego that performs using a bike powered sound system that requires students to pedal to power their performance Jamnesty Jamnesty is an annual spring outdoor music festival for social justice The event includes performances by students and outside bands and dozens of clubs and vendors supporting various social and environmental justice issues Jamnesty was created by Hailey Chalhoub 13 in
