    find success Welcome Home Community Global Engagement The Martin Institute for Law Society The Center for Nonprofit Management The Farm at Stonehill The Carole Calo Gallery H O P E Service Immersion Program Community Service Post Graduate Service Community Based Learning The Life You Change Will Be Your Own Changing the world might seem like a daunting goal but it s something Stonehill students do every day in ways big and small Athletics Recreational Sports NCAA Athletics Recreational Sports A Tradition of Athletic Excellence The Stonehill Skyhawks compete in the Northeast 10 Conference the largest NCAA Division II conference in the country Home News Media Yawkey Foundation Provides Grant to Establish Lou Gorman Pavilion Yawkey Foundation Provides Grant to Establish Lou Gorman Pavilion August 19 2013 Lou Gorman 53 A 2 million grant from the Yawkey Foundation in support of the Sally Blair Ames Sports Complex expansion project will be used to establish the Lou Gorman Pavilion A member of the Stonehill Class of 1953 and synonymous with the Boston Red Sox James Lou Gorman was one of the College s greatest ambassadors The exhibition space in the newly expanded Sports Complex will be designed to display and honor Gorman s commitment to the Boston Red Sox and Stonehill featuring his sports memorabilia and highlighting his long lasting and influential career in baseball The Red Sox general manager from 1984 1993 Gorman served as the organization s executive consultant for public affairs prior to his death in April of 2011 With the Yawkey Foundation s new commitment to name the Lou Gorman Pavilion we are deeply honored to design a space that serves as a tribute to Lou s athletic career and memory Creation of the Pavilion is also a fitting way to honor the dedication that Lou along with Tom and Jean Yawkey demonstrated during their lifetimes to athletics fitness and personal well being said Francis X Dillon 70 Vice President for Advancement at Stonehill In addition to their unprecedented support of the Sports Complex the Yawkey Foundation has made Stonehill a stronger and more productive institution over the years through the Yawkey Scholars Program better equipping us to serve our students Dillon added The Yawkey Scholars Program was introduced at Stonehill in 2005 Pictured left are Stonehill s 2012 Yawkey Scholars Gorman was the first alumnus to receive both the Outstanding Alumnus Award 1979 and the Alumni Service Award 2000 A member of the basketball and baseball teams while a student at the College he was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame in 1989 The Stonehill baseball field bears his name In addition he served several terms as a member of the Board of Trustees and as Chair of the College s Annual Fund There is also a scholarship at the College named for Gorman and his beloved wife Mary Lou In 1999 Stonehill gave Gorman its Moreau Medallion which was presented to 50 individuals whose loyalty and service contributed to the success of the College during
