    lockers that can be rented by the quarter Q Is there a cafeteria meal plan Meals may be purchased at the Tiffin Café which is opened Monday through Friday from 8 00am to 8 00pm the café serves coffee tea snacks and sandwiches Residents at International House are able to take advantage of newly remodeled Community Kitchen Q Can I keep a refrigerator or microwave in my room Resident members may keep a small refrigerator and microwave in their rooms although we do not provide them Electrical appliances such as hot water kettles and irons with automatic shut off switches are allowed as well Ironing boards are provided in our laundry rooms Q Are the rooms air conditioned The rooms do not come equipped with air conditioners However the House does have a fresh air system which provides air to circulate throughout the rooms and the House Public rooms such as the dining room 3rd floor study lounge lower level study rooms music practice rooms computer lab exercise room and resident TV room are all air conditioned Q Do you provide housing for couples All rooms at International House are single occupancy rooms We currently have one Guest Apartment which would accommodate a family Please contact the i house housing uchicago edu for more detail Q Can I have overnight guests Please refer to the Resident Handbook Location of I House Q Where are you located Please see our Directions page Q Is the neighborhood safe The neighborhood is called Hyde Park and it is among the safest in the City of Chicago The streets are well patrolled by the University of Chicago Police and the Chicago Police and there is active community involvement in the area Also there are many University students living in the surrounding neighborhood Application Process Q How and when can I apply for housing at I House We accept incoming residents for each of the four academic quarters at the University of Chicago For more information on the process please see our Prospective Residents section Fellowships Who is eligible for the Fellowship Three different awards are made in the Residential Fellowship Program All Fellowships are open to both American and international students Graduate Fellowships are available to newly admitted graduate students at the University of Chicago as well as interns post doctoral students and visiting scholars at the University of Chicago A copy of the admission letter to the University Of Chicago must accompany the application Collegiate Fellowships are open to University of Chicago undergraduates only A current student issued transcript must accompany the application Returning Resident Fellowships are open to residents who have lived at International House for at least one year but not more than two years Proof of current institutional affiliation must be provided with the application What are the amounts of the Fellowships Graduate Fellowships range from 1000 3000 dollars per academic year Collegiate Fellows are 1 500 per academic year Returning Resident Fellowships are 1000 per academic year Can I
