    Speakers Bureau ISSB International Educator Award UFIC Global Culture Photo Contest UF Footprint Cooperative Agreements Reciprocal Agreements International Students Exchange Visitors International Travel Study Abroad Programs Search Open Doors Reports UFIC About Us UFIC History Organization UFIC History The UF International Center UFIC was formed in the Fall of 1991 The founding director of the Center was a faculty member whose position was half time At the time the Center was located in Tigert Hall As the office began to grow it occupied some of the third floor of Tigert Hall and the Center s Program Development unit moved around the campus Walker Hall UFF The Director resigned in the fall of 1993 and an interim half time faculty director was subsequently appointed It was almost two years before the position was permanently filled again In 1995 the Center moved to Grinter Hall a building that was closer to the middle of campus and therefore more accessible to students However there was not enough space there for all Center staff so the Program Development unit was located in Peabody Hall The Center was finally moved to a renovated suite of offices in The Hub in March 2007 its current location This more spacious and central location has enabled UFIC to position its entire array of resources into one building where students and faculty can more easily find them Its proximity to a common area where students eat and study creates a comfortable accessible and highly visible environment for the Center s work and integration with the rest of the campus Although the focus of the Center has always been on internationalization of the campus there have been periods of growth and alternating periods of relative stagnation in this goal under differential funding environments and campus leadership whose commitment to the

    Responsibilities of Our Units Exchange Visitor Services EVS The University of Florida International Center is the official Program Sponsor designated by the Department of State DOS to administer J 1 Exchange Visitor programs at UF The Exchange Visitor Services unit EVS at UFIC interprets federal regulations covering the exchange visitor program and administers the program for international visitors to UF in any of the J 1 visa categories EVS works closely with academic units sponsoring the exchange visitors and with support units across campus to help assure that the visitors are able to complete their programs at UF successfully comply with immigration regulations and fulfill the requirements of the Exchange Visitor program for educational and cultural exchange Finance and Administration FA The UFIC financial unit provides finance and human resource oversight and management for the Center including the following Study Abroad Financial services Faculty and Staff Services UF faculty led program budgets salary payments travel approvals payments to foreign vendors program advances and reconciliations TeamAssist Emergency Assistance Program and CISI insurance and UF s international travel registration Students Services Financial aid budgets invoicing students deposits collections refunds Florida Prepaid and consortium agreements International Student Services ISS The International Student Services ISS unit assists in matters related to F 1 International Student visa status We are here to assist our students with the required immigration documents to study in the United States and in maintaining their legal nonimmigrant status once in the U S Our responsibility is to the Federal Government the University of Florida UF Colleges and Departments Non Academic Units and the International Students ISS serves as a primary resource to the University of Florida s international community in the following ways Processes I 20s for the application of the F 1 visa Advises international students and their dependents

    university community A wall plaque inscribed with the names of the award recipients is located in the University of Florida International Center in the Hub To make a contribution to this award please click here Diane Fisher Award UFIC has established two scholarships to be given to two undergraduate international students for outstanding service This scholarship is given in honor of Diane Fisher who passed away in October 2003 Diane Fisher an Admissions Document Specialist was an employee of UF for 15 years She worked closely with departments and students to ensure proper and timely processing of student documents She was an individual who always gave more than was required of her International Student Scholarships UFIC International Student Emergency Hardship Scholarship The UFIC has established a scholarship for international students experiencing unforeseen financial difficulties that are beyond their control Scarborough Scholarship The Scarborough agency established this award to show appreciation for the opportunity to work with international students at the University of Florida Scarborough Maud Fraser Scholarship The Scarborough agency established this award to show appreciation for the outstanding service provided by the International Student Services Staff The Award will be given in Honor of Mrs Maud Fraser who provided outstanding service to international students for 13 years Mrs Fraser retired June 30 2010 Marilyn Little Scholarship The International Committee of Altrusa International of Gainesville annually offers the Marilyn Little Scholarship to International students in their fourth year of undergraduate studies or in graduate school studies with a major of particular need in their home country Marilyn Little was an active member of Altrusa International of Gainesville and specifically the International Committee She died in 1996 Marilyn provided financial assistance for a Russian teenager in 1994 who needed medical attention and was brought to Gainesville for treatment She was very interested in helping international students in any way possible After her death Altrusa decided to name a scholarship in her honor Study Abroad Scholarships UFIC Semester and Academic Year Study Abroad Scholarships Daniel Sinclair Bredahl The Daniel Sinclair Bredahl Scholarships are awarded annually to UF undergraduates on the basis of a demonstrated interest in international study appropriateness of the chosen program to the student s long term goals and financial need The scholarships may be applied to any University of Florida International Center approved academic year or semester abroad program To ensure that Dan s spirit of adventure and international discovery touch as many students as possible these scholarships are non renewable Term Academic Year Fall Spring Amount 4 000 2 000 2 000 Number of Awards 1 3 3 Eligibility Two semester minimum 90 day minimum 90 day minimum UF International Center Study Abroad Scholarship Term Academic Year Fall Spring Amount 4 000 2 000 2 000 Number of Awards 1 4 4 Eligibility Two semester minimum 90 day minimum 90 day minimum Alliance Scholar Irene Phillips Term Fall Spring Amount 2 000 2 000 Number of Awards 1 1 Eligibility Alliance Scholar 90 day minimum Alliance Scholar 90
