    of the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering The Institute serves as a nexus of engineering innovation education and experiential programs extending across the spectrum of creative discovery and invention to the transition of UF engineering technologies and innovative students to the marketplace The Institute produces leaders with engineering and innovation skills to attack the world s most daunting problems and change the world The Institute s primary program elements are Creativity and Entrepreneurship built on the foundation of the College s research programs The College s inter disciplinary research Centers and Institutes and its broad spectrum of Departments and Schools provide a unique platform upon which Creativity and Entrepreneurship education produce many of our next generation innovation leaders whether they work in the private academic public service non profit or government military sectors The Institute s Creativity element develops innovative thinking in our constituents providing invaluable skill sets when combined with the analytical and problem solving skills inherent in our engineering education and research programs The Entrepreneurship element focuses on dovetailing technology with entrepreneurial education programs and is designed to bring commercialization focus and direction directly to the breadth and depth of the College s research programs ingraining entrepreneurial thought processes in engineering students and faculty The Institute is focused on high value outcomes and is designing programs to assure students faculty staff the university and external stakeholders are impacted in a real and deep manner Specifically the Engineering Innovation Institute fosters Technology commercialization and economic impact through early commercialization assessment of research programs increased depth and breadth of commercialized technologies and economic impact to the state and nation through commercialized technologies and student entrepreneurs Student entrepreneurs and innovators producing students versed in innovation who aspire to change the world and are differentiated from peer institutions by their innovation skills

    Space Flight Center Erik was a Principal for Cenetec Ventures a private technology incubator and early stage venture fund and along the way he grew several start up companies in areas ranging from real estate development to technology deployment Erik also co founded and served as President of V2R Group a technology commercialization company that provided funding and executive level direction to growing high technology companies in markets from internet security to medical device development Starting in 1995 Erik joined the faculty of the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering as Director of the University Center Associate Director for the Engineering Research Center and founding Director of Industry Programs all directed at fostering industrial collaboration entrepreneurship technology commercialization and innovation across a 70M research base Erik has served as the founding Director of the UF Florida High Tech Corridor Council Matching Funds Research Program the Associate Director for the State of Florida Energy Systems Consortium the Associate Director for the UF Center of Excellence for Nano Bio Sensors and the Co PI for the UF Center for Innovative Brain Machine Interfaces In 2011 Erik was named as the Founding Director of the University of Florida Engineering Innovation Institute which fosters a culture of innovation leadership within the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering and beyond The Institute is the nexus of leading edge curricular and experiential programs focused on creating student leaders in innovation positioned to change the world driving faculty programs focused on leading edge research and innovation connecting innovators entrepreneurs and investors with UF and transitioning the research and technologies of the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering to the private sector In 2015 Erik was named Founding Executive Director of the FLorida Engineering eXperiement Station FLEXStation at the University of Florida FLEXStation provides applied research and development services through a

    Residence Martin Wynkoop Martin Wynkoop is the Entrepreneur in Residence at the University of Florida s Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering with a focus on Medical Technology and Devices In this role Wynkoop works with Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering faculty and student entrepreneurs to become more innovative and successful in starting operating and leading companies His hands on approach draws upon proven strategies and tactics for accelerating innovation and in training entrepreneurs to be effective successful leaders for their companies Wynkoop helps entrepreneurs develop and commercialize products while advising senior management teams on the best practices to create and maintain sustainably profitable operations Wynkoop has over 30 years of experience in the medical biotech industry He has held many key positions including Director CEO CFO President and VP of Marketing He is a veteran entrepreneur who has contributed to the genesis of several successful startup companies and was instrumental to the growth of a number of companies and has participated in several successful company exits Wynkoop co founded OrthoHelix Surgical Designs which was acquired by Tornier NASDAQ TRNX for 185M 5 X annual sales He was an early contributor in the operations and customer development and relations of a
