    this interdisciplinary program within the College of Environment Design providing a forum for discussion of social and scientific responsibilities toward our environment Institute for Women s Studies The Department of Philosophy coordinates with the Institute for Women s Studies to provide a feminist interdiscmiplnary perspective on women and gender Welcome to Philosophy The Philosophy Department is a member of the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Georgia We are located in Peabody Hall on UGA s North Campus In addition to a full undergraduate program leading to an A B we offer both a terminal M A and Ph D Our pluralistic department has strengths in many areas including history of philosophy ethics social and political philosophy epistemology philosophy of mind phenomenology and feminist philosophy with notable initiatives in Metaphysics and Environmental Philosophy All of the major philosophical approaches including analytic continental and historical approaches are represented by individual faculty members The Philosophy Department participates in three interdisciplinary programs including the Environmental Ethics Certificate Program The Institute for Women s Studies and the Institute for Artificial Intelligence The department is also home to the academic journal Ethics the Environment edited by department head Victoria Davion and conducts an active colloquium series Discover the Department Prospective Students Current Students Faculty Staff Alumni News and Events Nov 9 2012 Lara Denis Agnes Scott Love of honor and a Kantian virtue An account according to which Kant s love of honor as a virtue is a practical attitude of respect for humanity in one s person affectively animated by the rational feeling of esteem for oneself as a moral being and concerned with acting in and only in ways that comport with the dignity of humanity in one s own person part of the Scott Heather Kleiner Colloquia Series

    graduate certificate Pursuit of an M A or Ph D in philosophy can be combined with enrollment in any of these certificate programs Institute for Artificial Intelligence The Institute for Artificial Intelligence is an interdepartmental research and instructional unit within the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences of the University of Georgia The Institute for Artificial Intelligence houses two degree programs the Master of Science program in Artificial Intelligence and the bachelor s degree program in Cognitive Science Strengths include logic programming expert systems neural nets genetic algorithms natural language processing computational psycholinguistics decision making under uncertainty multiagent systems and machine learning The University of Georgia has always seen cognitive science as an interdisciplinary field where Computer Science intersects with Philosophy Psychology Linguistics Engineering and other fields Go to the Institute for Artificial Intelligence Environmental Ethics Certificate Program The Environmental Ethics Certificate Program EECP is a non degree program offered as an enhancement to an undergraduate or graduate degree The EECP provides an interdisciplinary forum for students faculty and the community to discuss social and scientific responsibilities toward our environment Formally part of the College of Environment and Design the EECP provides a forum in which philosophers scientists and scholars from all other disciplines can discuss social and scientific responsibilities toward our environment in a rational manner which clearly defines problems considers all the information and maintains our values Go to the Environmental Ethics Certificate Program Institute for Women s Studies The Institute for Women s Studies provides a feminist interdisciplinary perspective on women and gender and offers both a major and a minor for undergraduates and a certificate for graduate students Administratively a program in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences Women s Studies cooperates with departments of all schools and colleges of the University in developing its
