    model and extend the human mind The University of Georgia has always seen cognitive science as an interdisciplinary field where computer science intersects with philosophy psychology linguistics engineering and other fields This comprises both classical artificial intelligence which focuses on getting computers to behave intelligently and newer approaches to cognitive computing where the computer is seen as an extension rather than a model of the human mind The Institute for Artificial Intelligence is an interdepartmental research and instructional unit within the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences of the University of Georgia Strengths include logic programming expert systems neural nets genetic algorithms natural language processing computational psycholinguistics decision making under uncertainty multiagent systems and machine learning The Institute for Artificial Intelligence houses two degree programs the Master of Science program in Artificial Intelligence and the bachelor s degree program in Cognitive Science Affliliated with the Institute are over 75 people hailing from over 10 different countries We pride ourselves on the diversity of our program student body and the ability of our program to allow for the pursuit of personal research interests Apply to our Master s Degree Program Contact Us UGA Home The University of Georgia is an Equal

    Center became the Institute for Artificial Intelligence in 2008 Two degrees are offered through the Institute for AI One is the undergraduate major in Cognitive Science The other is the master s degree in Artificial Intelligence a two year interdisciplinary program As far as we know this is the only place in the United States you can get a terminal master s degree in artificial intelligence one that is not an incomplete part of a Ph D program This degree stands on its own and prepares you for employment in the software industry or entry to a subsequent Ph D program here or elsewhere The master s degree in AI program consists of two years of course work in the background and major research areas of AI Student s research skills are then further developed through an original thesis project Details of the program can be found at the M S A I Program Details Page It includes a comprehensive study of AI with strengths on logic programming expert systems neural networks genetic algorithms and natural language processing Along with these major research areas students also have the flexibility to learn about other topics of interest at UGA The interdisciplinary nature of AI will introduce students to diverse fields of study and UGA is the perfect place to learn As a top ranking research institution UGA is proud to have some of the best researchers from around the world As a student in the AI program you will have the opportunity to work with these leading scholars Over the years the IAI has received funding for research from the National Science Foundation the Environmental Protection Agency the Department of Energy the Department of Agriculture GlaxoSmithKline Research Development Ltd the Georgia Research Alliance Centro Internacional por Agricultura Tropical Clemson University Medical

  • IAI - Cognitive Science
    since 1999 This is the only Cognitive Science program in the University System There are currently 2008 about thirty seven students majoring in Cognitive Science up from about twenty in 1999 The requirements for this major have not changed The AB in Cognitive Science is a demanding interdisciplinary program In Area F of the core majors must complete introductory courses in computer science linguistics philosophy psychology statistics and symbolic logic At the 3000 4000 level all majors take courses in Cognitive Science ARTI EPSY PSYC 3550 Theory of Knowledge PHIL 3610 Cognitive Psychology PSYC 4100 and Artificial Intelligence CSCI PHIL 4550 for a total of 13 hours Students then choose their remaining four courses for the major from four areas Artificial Intelligence Foundations Language and Culture Linguistics and Anthropology Philosophical Foundations and Psychological Foundations Majors take two courses from each of two of these areas choosing their courses from an approved list in each area More Cognitive Science information at the University of Georgia Major in Cognitive Science Cognitive Science Major Check List Cognitive Science Course Requirements Minor in Cognitive Science Cognitive Science Minor Check List Careers in Cognitive Science Sample Syllabus for PHIL ARTI EPSY PSYCH 3550 Contact person
