    a crisis depending on the type of crisis and the timing of a crisis the company experiences Slated to be featured in Communication Research A Buffer or Boomerang The Role of Corporate Reputation in Bad Times examines why and when a positive company reputation yields buffering or boomerang effects during crisis situations According to Sohn whose dissertation focused on this and other components of corporate reputation crisis literature has traditionally focused on how a good prior reputation serves as a shield for companies during bad times Compared to a company with no name or a bad reputation a company with a good prior reputation is expected to be less affected by a crisis situation according to past research Sohn said However our current study shows that depending on the type of crisis the prior reputation may not necessarily produce protection it may have either a positive or negative impact on the company The study also raises questions about the importance of corporate social responsibility and corporate ability leading Sohn and Lariscy to contemplate the benefits of companies keeping a low profile In crisis cases where corporate ability to provide good products or services is questioned our research shows that a well nurtured organizational reputation will pay off by buttressing firms with good names at bad times Sohn said A well thought of organization in terms of social responsibility can survive the occasional misfortune of a faulty product or service In the situation where the company s morality or integrity were tarnished however what we called a CSR crisis the situation gets complicated as the findings imply that carrying a favorable prior reputation can be a burden on the firm A socially irresponsible action by a previously considered ethical company can be quite damaging Sohn emphasized practical advice for organizations groundless

    jobs post graduation Smith said With a strong alumni base and continued student demand for internship and industry opportunities it was time that Grady solidified its presence in the entertainment capitol of the world Grady L A students spent three days a week interning for companies specializing in various areas of the industry Some of the internships offered perks such as movie premieres and on set experience The access the students had to major entertainment companies from various aspects of the business was unmatched said Grady L A student Gillian Williams While meeting students from other schools on similar study programs in L A I realized those students did not have nearly the access or opportunities that we did Grady L A was an overwhelming success I look forward continuing the program and strengthening our roots on West Coast said Smith Applications for the upcoming summer are now open The eight week program is open to all Grady majors and includes six credit hours an internship three days a week plus a class on industry studies Professor Smith works with students to find the best internship available that matches their interests Examples of last summer s internships include Mark Gordon Productions Grey s Anatomy Endgame Entertainment Looper Entertainment Tonight and Universal Music Group In addition to gaining valuable internship experience Grady L A students have the opportunity to visit companies and studios and meet with various industry professionals Students last summer visited the set of Modern Family the Teen Choice Awards and HBO headquarters Students will stay in Oakwood Apartments in Hollywood Hills with all amenities included for the duration of the program the package is included in the 5 000 program cost Also included in the cost is a weekly allowance for food and gas workshops tours speakers and
