    Departments Philosophy Computer Science Linguistics Psychology Management IS Educational Psychology Forestry Research Labs and Groups Evolutionary Computation and Machine Learning THINC MS in Artificial Intelligence Allowing students to pursue diverse research interests Cognition Computation and Intelligent Systems The University of Georgia has always viewed Cognitive Science and Artificial Intelligence as interdisciplinary fields where computer science meets philosophy psychology linguistics engineering and other disciplines Both fields are devoted to the study of cognition and intelligent systems Artificial Intelligence is particularly interested in creating computer systems that behave intelligently The Institute for Artificial Intelligence is an interdepartmental research and instructional unit within the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences of the University of Georgia It offers two degree programs The Bachelor of Arts in Cognitive Science and The Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence The Institute s strengths include logic programming expert systems neural nets genetic algorithms natural language processing and computational psycholinguistics Affiliated with the Institute are over 75 people from over 10 different countries We pride ourselves on the diversity of our student body and the ability of our programs to allow for the pursuit of personal research interests Learn More about our Programs Back to Top Explore The Institute

  • Degree Programs | Institute for Artificial Intelligence
    of Georgia and one of only a few such programs in the southeastern United States Furthermore UGA is to our knowledge the only place in the United States offering a terminal master s degree in AI one that is not an incomplete part of a Ph D program The Artificial Intelligence degree stands on its own and prepares you for employment in the software industry or entry to a subsequent Ph D program here or elsewhere For the AB degree students take lower level classes in computer science linguistics philosophy psychology and statistics At the upper division level all majors take certain required courses including Introduction to Cognitive Science and then courses in at least two of four concentration areas Artificial Intelligence Foundations Philosophical Foundations Psychological Foundations and Language and Culture The master s degree in AI consists of roughly two years of course work in the background and major research areas of AI Research skills are further developed through an original thesis project In addition students have the flexibility to learn about other topics of interest at UGA The interdisciplinary degree programs offered by the Institute will introduce students to diverse fields of study and UGA provides an excellent

    Machine Learning THINC MS in Artificial Intelligence Allowing students to pursue diverse research interests About the Institute In 1984 interested researchers at the University of Georgia formed the Artificial Intelligence Research Group The program has grown by leaps and bounds since then It was officially established as the Artificial Intelligence Center in 1995 and became part of the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences in 2006 The AI Center became the Institute for Artificial Intelligence in 2008 The Institute is both a research and an instructional unit and it administers both the Bachelor of Arts in Cognitive Science and the Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence Institute faculty come from several departments and academic units at UGA including Computer Science Philosophy Psychology Linguistics and Engineering The Institute s strengths include logic programming expert systems neural nets genetic algorithms natural language processing and computational psycholinguistics Over the years the IAI has received funding for research from the National Science Foundation the Environmental Protection Agency the Department of Energy the Department of Agriculture GlaxoSmithKline Research Development Ltd the Georgia Research Alliance Centro Internacional por Agricultura Tropical Clemson University Medical College of Georgia and the American Association for Artificial Intelligence Currently IAI faculty

  • AB In Cognitive Science | Institute for Artificial Intelligence
    Artificial Intelligence helped found the undergraduate major in Cognitive Science and has coordinated that major since 1999 This is the only Cognitive Science program in the University System of Georgia The AB in Cognitive Science is a demanding interdisciplinary program In the major related core students take lower level classes in computer science linguistics philosophy psychology and statistics At the upper division level all majors take Introduction to Cognitive Science ARTI PHIL PSYC 3550 Cognitive Psychology PSYC 4100 and choose between either Artificial Intelligence CSCI PHIL 4550 or Generative Syntax ENGL LING 3150 After being exposed to a wide range of interdisciplinary classes students then focus on two or more of four areas of concentration Artificial Intelligence Foundations Philosophical Foundations Psychological Foundations Language and Culture Linguistics and Anthropology Majors must take five classes across these subject areas with at least two classes in two different areas Specific course requirements for the major as well as other useful information can be found on the following pages UGA Bulletin AB Cognitive Science AB Course Requirements 1 page summary AB Sample Plans of Study Careers in Cognitive Science Minor in Cognitive Science In addition to the major a 15 18 credit hour Minor
