    Coordinator at UI Housing Dining CDA may have an interest in shoring up the attendance and promotion of this event Brian M will discuss this with DPAC subcommittee members in charge of planning the event Poster Project Jefri reported that the 705 budget for the project has been approved Design will be updated to include various contact and sponsoring group information as well as citing a resource for the data 500 small and 30 large will be purchased Housing will post 180 of them Other areas for posting and inserting were discussed An electronic format will be made available for use on digital signage systems Kathy F may seek an opportunity to share the poster as part of news story interview she has been asked to participate in Facebook Page Janalyn will be updating changing the address There are approximately 40 followers One or more Twitter hashtags will be established CinemAbility Film The new date has been set for Nov 12th Thursday at 6 30 PM in Shambaugh Auditorium Janalyn is working on finalizing the logistics of the skype interview and the Library is working in house on creating some marketing materials activities Details for hiring a sign language interpreter

    any diversity funds this year Jefri will follow up with Jacob Farvel to see if there is a window when the students could create a poster She will also check with Georgina Dodge to see when the deadline s for applying for grants is Our hope is to have something ready to go by October 2016 We do not feel it is realistic to put together a quality marketing program in time for this year We discussed alternatives for this year including pushing out digital messages using social media and or kiosks posting on the cambus can post in 10 buses at one time residence hall bulletin boards etc Facebook and Twitter Janalyn will create a Facebook page and Twitter account plus a Hashtag for CDA Everyone will send Janalyn one fact she will compile the facts and push one out per week October Disability Awareness Month Anne will let UI media know that October is Disability Awareness Month She will highlight Bill s Coffee Shop the 100 Women donation to UI REACH and the recent gift to Janet Schlapkohl s theatre group the Cinemability screening on Oct 29th and possibly the 25th Anniversary of ADA Celebration on October 7th at the Union Mark reported that the Disability Summit Oct 7th is planned Attendance is by invitation only so we will not highlight it in Anne s work It will be held 9 4 30 at the IMU Above Beyond Award nominations are being accepted through Sept 29th Janalyn reports that the showing of the film Cinemability in Shambaugh Auditorium on Thursday Oct 29th at 6 00 P M will include audio description An app that can help with audio description is Cinema Connect Mike Hoenig will be sending addition information about the World Café Discussions A discussion was held

    Department Recognition of Universal Design Program Brian M presented information on the definition and goals of universal design There was discussion regarding the value and possibility of CDA initiating a universal design workshop course as part of the BUILD initiative since universal design cannot be practiced effectively without a basic understanding of diversity and diversity is the underlying rationale for universal design There will be a course available within BUILD addressing Disability Accommodation but nothing currently planned for that approaches the topic of universal design The Safe Zone emblem was created by IMU Marketing Design The Council needs to decide if it will move forward on creating a similar brand to recognize campus units departments for exemplary implementation of universal design principles Events Announcements Janalyn Moss will move forward with scheduling the film Cinemability in Shambaugh Auditorium on Thursday Oct 29th at 6 00 P M Shambaugh seats 216 people The film is 1 hour and 40 minutes in length There will be a Q A session via Skype following the viewing Janalyn will send a note out to the CDA listserv asking for a moderator for the Q A session Mike Hoenig will serve as a backup moderator Audio description will be provided and Mike will explain why it is being utilized prior to the start of the screening Janalyn will coordinate efforts to have posters created for marketing the event To date there are no costs assigned to CDA for this event thanks to the folks at the Library The 2015 Iowa Regents Institutions Disability Awareness Summit is being hosted by the University of Iowa this year on Oct 7th at the IMU The target audience is statewide disability service representatives in the higher education realm The Above Beyond Award will be incorporated in with the Summit this

    performed a review of their space located on the 1st floor of Schaeffer Hall Mobility sight and hearing disabilities were represented during the review New Business As a follow up to the efforts of the HAA program and in support of Departments and Units wishing to achieve physical space which is inviting and supporting to all individuals CDA will begin looking into the possibility of creating some type of designation which will recognize a Department or Unit achievements towards this effort Brian Manternach will present information on Universal Design at the next CDA meeting and will sending out via email some examples of similar efforts which recognize achievements towards UD Brian will also check with Sharon Beck on design efforts regarding the Safe Zone emblem Other suggestions were to initiate a student competition and contact IMU Marketing Design Old Business Poster There has been previous discussion and efforts for a poster campaign to create awareness of non apparent disabilities Carly will be sending out cost estimates Come prepared to contribute with ideas about non apparent disabilities at the next meeting Events Announcements Sat July 25th 2015 is the annual Iowa City ADA Celebration Carly Armour and Mike Hoenig will be speaking during the event The event is located at the Iowa City Ped Mall 11 am 2pm Janalyn Moss announced the University Libraries has purchased the film Cinemability Cinemability is a humorous and thought provoking look at the history of disability and entertainment University Libraries is willing to present the film in Shambaugh Auditorium at the Main Library in support of CDA s disability awareness efforts Janalyn will be looking into tentatively scheduling the viewing for Oct 7th and blocking off the room between 5 30 9 30 Patti Bahr Director of ICATER will allow for students enrolled in particular

    to be filled The PR Coordinator assists with promoting CDA events and informing the campus of what is going on Let Carly know if you are interested in serving or wish to nominate someone This will be on the agenda again next month Hawkeye Accessibility Ambassador HAA program update The program is proving to be of value with positive results Ambassadors have participated in several activities to date which have included the review of major new facility construction and renovation projects as well as the assessment of existing facilities HAA is looking to expand the Ambassador pool of resources by inviting faculty and staff members to participate It is envisioned that a more diverse set of disabilities be represented during HAA activities Recently implemented a Facebook site https www facebook com UI HAA One suggestion was to consider using Twitter also HAA program pioneers will be meeting with ITS staff to discuss how the program can assist with technology accessibility initiatives Events Announcements It was suggested that CDA tackle the management of one rather than several film showing as part of their awareness efforts The 2015 Iowa Regents Institutions Disability Awareness Summit is being hosted by the University of Iowa
