    uiowa edu via e mail with a resume and your Fall schedule Research Focus Ramchandran Lab Psychiatry Apply by 9 15 2015 Project Position Details This position is ideal for motivated and reliable students interested in researching one or several of the areas of cognitive neuroscience psychology psychiatry or business management It presents a great opportunity to work healthy normal adults and patients with psychiatric illness in a clinical setting The research studies have the potential to accommodate an undergraduate honors thesis plan in any of the above fields for advanced students Research responsibilities will include assisting in experiments involving neuroimaging participants in a magnetic resonance imaging scanner conducting literature reviews and assisting with manuscript preparation Administrative responsibilities include filing research advertising and recruitment of participants Data management responsibilities include data entry data scoring and minor data analysis Training and hands on experience will be provided in all the above areas Compensation Students are expected to volunteer for the minimum period of a month with the option of graduating to work study status or academic credit for research credit Time Commitment Flexible in 3 hour chunks up to a maximum of 12 hours per week optional To start immediately or in the near future with the potential to be ongoing Qualifications Undergraduate student at the University of Iowa with a minimum GPA of 3 5 Basic working knowledge of MICROSOFT WORD and EXCEL Prior research experience with programming or data analytic software experience an added plus To apply Please send your resume CV including 3 references and letter of interest to kanchna ramchandran uiowa edu Phone 319 356 0535 Research Focus Chemistry Haes Lab Project Position Details Revolutions spawned by nanoscience research are becoming and will continue to become parts of our reality At the heart of these nanotechnologies are nanoscale materials that exhibit novel size dependent chemical and physical properties These materials can be used as building blocks for larger scale devices with applications ranging from electronics to sensors To develop and optimize these devices controlled fabrication synthesis of the nano building blocks must be developed the fundamental properties of the materials must be understood and the surface chemistries of the nano building blocks must be controlled One area of active nanoscale research in our group is focused on disease diagnosis For instance cancer a group of diseases characterized by uncontrolled growth and spreading of abnormal cells is currently the second leading cause of death worldwide One area of active research in cancer therapy is the development of new anti cancer drugs that minimize the poor selectivity non specific toxicity and undesired side effects that are associated with traditional therapies Prior to human studies the metabolism pharmacokinetics safety stability and toxicity of the potential drug must be assessed The aim of this research project is to develop a novel diagnostic tool using nanoparticles for the direct detection of the anti cancer drug 6 mercaptopurine and its metabolites Recently we have developed a novel method that produces optically stable noble
