    Honors Program is dedicated to cultivating student scholars at the university To that end all students are encouraged to embark on undergraduate research in their majors or areas of interest and especially to do so in the context of their Independent Project option to complete Honors coursework Honors students will find considerable program support for finding faculty mentors developing research proposals and finding venues in which to showcase the results

    supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities the Ameritech SBC Foundation the Whiting Foundation and Indiana University President s Arts and Humanities Initiative among others Meg Marquis Senior Academic Coordinator Meg serves as the advisor for all Honors students program coordinator scheduling classes organizing events serving as faculty liaison running student programs coordinating admissions processes LLC partner and Singletary Scholars program coordinator She also teaches UK 101 and serves on a wide variety of university committees Meg is an UK Honors Program alumnus having graduated with a BA in English and minors in Business and Classics in 2001 and an MA in English in 2003 Her areas of scholarly interest include 19th and 20th century American literature gender studies and corporeality and body studies She worked previously as the UK English staff advisor and has taught extensively at UK and Transylvania University Outside of her many responsibilities in the Honors Program Meg spends time with her second grade daughter reading voraciously knitting cooking and skating with her roller derby team the Rollergirls Of Central Kentucky ROCK Heather Carpenter Student Affairs Officer Heather Carpenter serves as an advisor and co curricular coordinator for the Honors Program at the University of Kentucky She also teaches in the Women and Gender Studies program at Eastern Kentucky University Prior to coming to UK she was the Communications and Development coordinator for KECSAC the Kentucky Educational Collaborative for State Agency Children a grant program at Eastern Kentucky University Before KECSAC she taught English and Composition at Bluegrass Community and Technical College for two years Heather earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Anthropology from Centre College a Master of Arts degree in English Literature from Washington University in St Louis and an M Div degree from Vanderbilt Divinity School in May of 2007 Outside of her responsibilities with the Honors Program Heather enjoys traveling reading writing pretending she takes yoga seriously wasting time on Facebook and saving the world Brad Hubbard Student Affairs Officer Brad serves as an Academic Advisor for the UK Honors program beginning his work with UK Honors in August of 2012 He recently moved to the Lexington area from Southern California so that he and his wife Victoria can start a family and enjoy the lower cost of living He earned his Bachelor s Degree in Sociology from the University of California San Diego in 1998 and has worked as an Academic Advisor for San Diego State University University of California Irvine and Weber State University in Utah As a young adult Brad and his friends were playing with paint ball guns without using safety goggles and he was accidentally shot in his right eye resulting in permanent vision impairment Unfortunately his eyesight was rendered monocular and he cannot enjoy all the awesome 3 D movies that are coming out now Brad is skilled in karate self defense and will soon be training locally in other martial arts disciplines He is a huge fan of competitive mixed martial
