    Of Kentucky Uk s 88 1 WRFL Lexington UK KBook UK KWeek Joseph T Burch Society The Joseph T Burch Society was established in 2008 to encourage giving to the Division of Student Affairs by former students and friends It brings together individuals who share a desire to provide enduring and generous support and services for the Division The Joseph T Burch Society is named in honor of Mr Joseph T Burch former Dean of Students and administrator at UK Mr Burch had a highly distinguished forty year career in Student Affairs at the University He was an administrator counselor mentor and the moving force behind the creation of many of the Student Affairs initiatives and Department that support students today The University of Kentucky recently established the Burch Society to honor the outstanding career of Joseph T Burch It exists today to advance his ambitions for the University and the Division of Student Affairs and to recognize his overall dedication to excellence in higher education To qualify for membership in the Joseph T Society one can make a gift to the University of 5 000 or more in cash securities or personal property having this accepted appraised value indicate the intention to contribute 5 000 or more to the Division within a ten year period such a pledge to be payable at the rate of 500 or more annually or signify by appropriate means the intention to give 25 000 or more by means of a bequest some form of permanent life insurance or with a charitable remainder or other trust agreement Such gifts may qualify the donor for the designation university Fellow and if half or more of the gift is for the Division of Student Affairs for membership in the Burch Society The qualifying gift to the

    gift to Student Affairs you are truly making a difference for today s students Each dollar advances the valuable programs we offer and the important services we provide The Student Affairs Development Office is dedicated to establishing new gift programs and supporting the current initiatives of the Division of Student Affairs The office is charged with the Division s private fundraising activities and is responsible for the development efforts of the Division s eight departments The office also works closely with parents alumni student groups corporations and the campus Development Office to promote and enhance the programs and activities available to all UK students There Are Several Different Ways to Give Cash Gifts A gift of cash is the most commonly used method of giving to Student Affairs Most cash gifts are directed to special projects or made through the Student Affairs Annual Fund In Kind Gifts Individuals and corporations can make in kind donations of products or services that are useful to the Division of Student Affairs Gifts of Securities Gifts of common stocks bonds mutual funds or other appreciated securities may be made to Student Affairs Depending on the circumstances the securities will either be managed or liquidated to achieve the donor s goals A popular benefit of such a gift beyond the charitable income tax deduction is that in most cases capital gains on the appreciation of the securities can be avoided Gifts of Property Gifts of real estate and other properties of value may be given to Student Affairs as well These gifts can often receive the same tax treatment as gifts of securities Matching Gifts Many companies match gifts their employees make to Student Affairs Your employer s human resources department will be able to provide you with additional details Our Priorities Leadership Development Active
