  • College Excellence Awards | College of Communication and Information
    It requires discipline to challenge students with robust diverse assignments which demand thorough thoughtful evaluation by the teacher Excellence in teaching is championed and honored by the College of Communication and Information through its annual Teaching Excellence Award We present one award to a full time faculty member and the second award to a graduate teaching assistant The award consists of a plaque 350 in cash recognition at the College Awards and Recognition Dinner and the recipient is eligible for a supplemental salary award as outlined in the Wethington Faculty Incentive Plan Eligibility The Award is open to any current full time faculty member of the College This includes faculty with administrative appointments such as the Director Department Chair or Associate Dean The Dean of the College is not eligible Faculty Research Award This award recognizes a faculty member or members who have achieved a record of noteworthy achievements in research since joining the College or since last receiving this award whichever is most recent Nominations should enumerate the achievements in this period and explain how each contributes to the nominee s program of scholarship Please include a brief description of the research conducted and an explanation of importance to the College or to their field of expertise The award winner will receive a 350 cash prize a plaque and recognition at the College Awards and Recognition Dinner and may be eligible for a salary supplement as outlined in the Wethington Faculty Incentive Plan Eligibility All regular full time faculty members of the College are eligible for nomination for this award Former award recipients are also eligible to receive the award This includes faculty with administrative appointments such as Director Department Chair or Associate Dean for Graduate Studies The Dean of the College is not eligible Faculty Community Service Award This award recognizes achievements by our faculty in service to our community The nomination must include a brief description of the community service work and its relation to the college and university mission The award winner will receive a 350 cash prize and a plaque The award winner may be eligible for a supplemental award as outlined in the Wethington Faculty Incentive Plan if there is no faculty member or members who have won a national or international award during the previous year Eligibility All regular full time faculty of the College are eligible for nomination This includes faculty with administrative appointments such as Director Department Chair or Associate Dean for Graduate Studies The Dean of the College is not eligible Graduate Teaching Assistant Award Excellence in teaching is a multi faceted achievement and it requires not only mastery of subject matter but awareness of current developments and a vision of what is to come It requires the ability to communicate that knowledge to students in ways which foster understanding intellectual growth and a broadening of perspectives It requires a commitment to igniting respect for the discipline and a desire to uphold the values and ethics of the discipline It

    Contact Info Welcome and thank you for your interest in the College of Communication and Information It is an exciting time to be a part of the College as we continue to build on our tradition of excellence while preparing our students for the information age The College has a mission of improving people s lives through excellence in research service and education and training Our faculty members are distinguished along several dimensions including international recognition for their research and expertise service as editors of our discipline s journals and leadership as office holders in our national and regional organizations Many faculty have received University Great Teaching Awards the Provost Distinguished Professor Award as well as Excellence in Research Community Service and Teaching awards from the College Our undergraduate student body has nearly doubled in the past decade Our students are recognized for their leadership roles on campus in the classroom their research achievements and their creative pursuits Journalism students continue to attain top national rankings from the William Randolph Hearst Journalism Awards Program Integrated Strategic Communication students have won numerous state and regional American Advertising Federation National Student Advertising competitions Communication students continue their record of achievement through undergraduate research A recent National Communication Association survey revealed that our Department of Communication is the most highly funded Communication program in the nation New figures reveal they have secured more than 35 million in extramural funding over the past 15 years Almost all of this research is focused in the health communication area and investigates ways to increase the effectiveness of media or classroom based prevention programming Within the College s six teaching and research centers additional funded projects focus on the development and evaluation of theory based interventions aimed at preventing the onset or reducing the frequency of risk
