    microphones or other hardware Courses are conducted through Blackboard a course management system contracted with UK All students with a LinkBlue ID and password can login to Blackboard using those credentials The School supports part time studies in a variety of ways in addition to the availability of online courses many face to face courses are scheduled in late afternoon or evening providing better access to the School s degree programs Please note that the degree may be earned through online only or a mix of online and select face to face classes there is no fully face to face option Distance learning at UK began when the program began offering courses on the campuses of Northern Kentucky University and the University of Louisville Since then distance learning has evolved to online learning allowing more students the opportunity to attend the University of Kentucky School of Library and Information Science Questions may be sent to Student Affairs Distance Learning FAQ If a course is offered via the Internet can I assume there will be no face to face requirements Yes online courses have been migrated to 100 online This may mean that you are required to have a webcam microphone and access to high speed internet but you will not be required to show up for on campus sessions I m a Lexington campus student can I register for online courses Yes Should I expect that all LIS courses will be offered online No Students who plan to engage the program only online must accept that they may not get some courses they deem of importance and that they may need to take some courses of marginal interest to their career plans to fulfill 36 hours However the majority of course offerings are available online How do I know what

    Publications Academic Policies iSchools Our College Student Handbook You are here Home Graduates Library and Information Science Alumni Support SLIS Last year graduates of UK SLIS donated over 19 000 and this year our goal is 30 000 There are a variety of SLIS funds you can contribute to This fall we will be asking for donations to two specific funds Lois Mai Chan SLIS Student Enrichment Fund was established by Deanna Marcum SLIS 1971 to honor Dr Lois Mai Chan and her 40 plus years service to the School and its students Dr Chan retired in December 2011 When endowed funds may be used by the School for scholarships student travel to professional meetings or student internship programs poster and paper presentations To make a gift by credit card go to http www uky edu GiveNow welcome htm select CI and select the Fund name The SLIS Fund for Excellence supports technology enhancement needs student and alumni events and student travel to professional conferences The Anne Y McConnell Fund benefits the enrichment of programs in the School particularly in the field of children s literature and services You are also welcome to make a gift to any other fund
