    Emeritus Faculty ICR Faculty Faculty News About Us About Us Diversity Plan Publications Academic Policies iSchools Our College Student Handbook You are here Home Blogs Anthony Ubelhor s blog New Mural at LPL s Village Branch Rebecca Montaño Smith an SLIS alumnus and Lexington Public Library s Village Branch Assistant Manager organized the creation of a mural on one of the library s outside walls The Mural was funded by a grant from LexArts and LFUCG Department of Environmental Quality The 5000 EcoArts grant plus added funds from the 21st Century Community Learning Center grant allowed students to work with a local artist and paint the mural The students are frequent Village Branch patrons as well as participants in the afterschool program from the Martin Luther King Academy of Excellence and Fayette County Public Schools Luella Pavey the local artist and her assistant guided the mural design The students gave frequent input to ensure the mural would encompass the theme of Kentucky s rich agricultural history and the people who worked it In April several of the students went on a field trip with the artist to see and experience murals around Lexington Pavey held a few design sessions in

  • SLIS Announces Fall 2012 Scholarship Winners | Library and information science
    to work in a special library specializing in government or politics Steve Jung Fry s Fund Scholarship Steve Jung is an adjunct lecturer of Biblical Studies at Azusa Pacific University and has been teaching online and face to face for 10 years His interest in libraries and library science started several years ago while spending time with students in the library where he began to see the library as an extension of the classroom When he graduates in 2013 Jung sees himself working in instructional services in an academic library Ashley LeBourveau Wilson Fund Scholarship Ashley LeBourveau stumbled into library science via her interest in medieval literature and hopes to work in an academic library upon graduation where she might be able to help students learn how to find their way through all the information the world has to offer Laura Beth Mann MacQuown Fund Scholarship Laura Mann is currently certified to teach elementary grades K 5 and wishes to become a children s librarian after graduation She loves watching children learn new things and assisting others tin achieving their learning goals Donica Miller Fry s Fund Scholarship Donica Miller is a distance learning student from Urbana Illinois Since earning her MA in English Miller has been working in circulation services at her local public library and loves the rewards and challenges that come with such work The decision to pursue her MSLIS is based on her love of books and the appreciation she has for the information services provided by both public and academic libraries Whitney Motley Wilson Fund Scholarship Whitney Motley s mother was a librarian for nearly thirty years and every day after school she made the library where her mother worked her second home Librarianship must be written in Motley s DNA not only was her
