  • Cortney Slaughter Chosen to be First Chancellor for a Day for 2009-2010
Meeting The Chancellor s Cabinet members at the Honors List Reception Lunch in the Cafeteria My day being Chancellor For A Day was a once in a lifetime experience It was an adventure at FSU from an administrative perspective the Chancellor s perspective rather than the everyday student life I have grown accustomed to Still words cannot express how elated I felt to have been chosen for such a prestigious title I honestly felt like what I would imagine Kobe Bryant would have felt in a press conference after winning the 2008 2009 NBA Championship Title I attended 3 meetings as the Chancellor of the Day and had the opportunity to listen in and give my opinions in regards to the bright future of FSU Likewise the importance of establishing a communicational relationship with as many people as possible especially for the purposes of being aware of what s going on in various departments on campus at all times as well as being aware of the perception of others was all revealed to me like never before As Chancellor I plan to change Greeting faculty staff and other administrators Heading to the Cafeteria The funniest moment of being Chancellor For A Day was when Dr James Anderson had suggested that I speak to my peers and friends after we had placed our lunch trays on the table in the cafeteria also known as the café since I was indeed the Chancellor For A Day Several moments later after I followed out that bright idea and came back to sit and eat with Dr James Anderson I found it hilarious for him to tell me Hey man you were taking pictures and shaking hands for about 30 minutes Congratulating Honor Students Speaking at the Chancellor s Honors List Reception I am

  • Yikang Bai - My Impression of Chancellor for a Day
He is working on the establishment of The North Carolina Center for Defense and Homeland Security Once established the center will bring benefits to FSU Chancellor Anderson and his team put students academics as the university s priority When he met with the Board of Directors of Fayetteville State University Development Corporation he showed his great concern about the business that may harm the well being of the FSU community on the Bronco Square He emphasized that FSU is the place for students to pursue their studies When he met with prospective bowlers and their parents he reiterated that academics is the most important thing for FSU students no matter if they are athlete students or not Chancellor Anderson s team collaborates closely with him providing him with their insight in meeting discussions Chancellor for a Day also makes me realize that the sound operation and management of a university requires the positive attitude and hard work of every faculty and staff One unpleasant experience take calling certain offices without being answered for example is big enough to influence people s impression of the university Every faculty and staff of the FSU family is the image that other people see what Fayetteville State University looks like It takes every FSU family member s effort to achieve the goals Chancellor for a Day which is a valuable experience for me is the highlight of my life on campus Press release Yikang Bai Excerpt from Yikang s application I am a Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant FLTA who teaches Chinese and studies at FSU The Fulbright program provides me a Chinese educator the opportunity to become familiar with the American educational system The Chancellor for a Day Program will further enable me to have close observation of American higher education administration to

  • Charles J. Williams Chancellor for a Day April 20, 2011
and other FSU products At 8 30 we attended a vital meeting with the SACS team which was held in the Chesnutt Library Since the SACS team only visits once every ten years and is the regional body that accredits the entire university the meeting was very important During the meeting the SACS team was concerned about potential issues involving distance learning As an MBA student who has taken numerous distance classes I addressed those concerns with my many positive experiences with the MBA program The next item on our agenda was a 10 00 Cabinet Meeting which was held in the Chancellor s conference room I was able to see firsthand our Chancellors administrative skills as he controlled the meeting while encouraging brainstorming sessions on hot campus issues I joined in the discussions and gave my opinion on certain issues We were able to discuss the future campus construction fundraising and even the FSU brand The Cabinet Meeting lasted until 12 00 and then we went to lunch The Chancellor and several cabinet members joined me for lunch at the Student Center I talked with students and was happy to meet Mrs Anderson and Jazmin Henry who was Chancellor for a Day in February My Chancellor for a Day title quickly became Rock Star for a Day as I perused through the crowded cafeteria shaking hands taking pictures and conversing with faculty staff and students The next item on the agenda was an introduction to the Administrative Staff I thoroughly enjoyed meeting all personnel and was impressed with their school pride When meeting with Dr Conway and Dr Marsha McLean we discussed future applicants for an open position Chancellor Anderson enforced how important it is to hire the right people which reminded me of one of my favorite books
