    is thinking of becoming a teacher to seek out the elementary education program at FSU Congratulations to Beth Williams She Winner of the Entre Nous Scholarship 1 200 00 Beth Williams is pursuing a bachelor s degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in History She will start her methods courses in January 2016 Mrs Williams was born and raised in Michigan and moved to Fayetteville Ft Bragg NC in 1994 as her first duty station in the US Army She was Girl Scout Leader for years and the Religious Education Coordinator at a post in Germany She loves working with children and is excited about getting her own classroom Entre Nous Scholarship 1 200 from the Cumberland Community Foundation Inc The Scholarship was created in loving memory of Michelle Jones for the purpose of making a college education accessible to deserving students pursuing a degree in education at Fayetteville State University This scholarship is available to students who meet all of these requirements A student at Fayetteville State University who has completed at least two semesters a student with a cumulative GPA of at least a 2 5 and A student who is planning to teach after graduation Strong Scholarship Winner Spring 2015 Stacey B Ayers a senior elementary education major at Fayetteville State University is the recipient of the Hattie M Strong Foundation Scholarship for spring 2015 The Strong Scholarship supports undergraduate teacher education candidates in their final year of school Stacey is doing her student teaching in kindergarten at Greenwood Elementary School in Lee County She says I love my 22 children and am enjoying every minute of my student teaching She loves reading and tries to model that love of reading for her students Stacey has a deep love for her family her faith and her students It always has been her life s dream to be a teacher ever since she home schooled her own children for fifteen years She began her education as a dual enrolled student at Central Carolina Community College in Lee County NC Stacey says she wants to be the light that shines in the lives of students and wants to make a difference in the world by mentoring and teaching students of today to become leaders of tomorrow Ruby Wilkerson Scholarship Winner Spring 2015 Congratulations to Sarah Jennen our spring 2015 scholarship winner Ms Jennen is an Elementary Education candidate enrolled in her methods courses She will being completing her student teaching during the fall 2015 Ms Jennen started tutoring children while in high school as part of a community service project and during that time she fell in love with teaching She is enjoying her studies here and says it enlightening and rewarding She hopes to make a difference in the lives of children and is proud to represent our Department as the scholarship recipient Women of Power Summit 2015 Congratulations to Quindara Burke our Elementary Education major who was selected to attend the Women of Power Summit March

  • Expections for Middle Grades, Secondary & Specialized Subjects Academic Advisement
    curricular activities for accurate and appropriate referrals have basic interpersonal communication and counseling skills keep information disclosed in all academic advising sessions confidential unless written permission is given by the student or if sessions are in an emergency nature When students schedule and appointment with their faculty advisor the expectations should be to receive assistance by a faculty advisor who will assist each advisee to plan each term s program of courses and as soon as possible help to determine a comprehensive educational plan explained the academic program core and departmental requirements advisor s signature on approval for student s enrollment changes provided a record of his her academic progress informed of all FSU partnerships of transfer credit articulations with in state and out of state colleges and universities if these expectation are NOT met please contact the Department Chairperson as soon as possible for further assistance Student Advisee Responsibilities Students should take the initiative to seek advisement and develop a close helping relationship with their advisors Students must be proactive in regards to their academic and career plans The advisee has primary responsibility for actively making decisions about his her educational goals including selection of courses major and career setting time for scheduling advising meetings with an academic advisor early in the semester and before peak registration dates preparing to make full use of the advising session with an academic advisor By providing the advisor with needed academic documentation such as official college transcripts Undergraduate level SAT ACT PRAXIS I or Graduate level GRE MAT score reports placement test results and other pertinent information taking the time to review the core and major requirements course offerings prior to an advising appointment being knowledgeable of changes made to academic programs curriculums class schedules and academic policies and procedures which can
