    Course Number and Name Number of Hours Required Activities To Be Completed EDUC 211 Laboratory Experiences in Area Schools 15 Observation of teacher candidate interactions to develop an appreciation for and an understanding of the teaching learning processes in a school setting Assisting with routine tasks working with individual candidates and candidates in small groups EDUC 330 Educational Psychology and Human Development 10 Participation in activities that build on theories of measurements and evaluation of candidate achievement grade papers prepare charts or visual provide instruction as requested take role and record attendance and complete initial analysis of student data EDUC 331 Instructional Design and Assessment of Learning 10 The field experience aligned to EDUC 331 provides the pre candidate with the opportunity to observe and learn about the variety of classroom assessments used to drive candidate learning in the North Carolina Public School System The pre candidate will spend 10 hours in a classroom observing and interacting with candidates and the clinical experience P 12 preferably during assessment periods The pre candidate will be required to interview the clinical educator P 12 to determine the clinical educator s P 12 perspective on the relationships between assessment and learning as well

  • Admission to Teacher Education
    testing requirements page Submission of Teacher Education Application to include the clearance form and personal security data background check form Verification of health status by the university physician An acceptable deportment rating officially verified by the Director of Residence Life Have been recommended to and approved by the Teacher Education Committee through the department chair of the area through which licensure is sought Have undergone an interview as outlined by their major department Licensure Only Candidates Degreed a post baccalaureate degree candidate pursuing an initial license Completion of EDUC 211 A grade point average of 2 50 or above Submission of Teacher Education Application Verification of health status by the university physician An acceptable deportment rating officially verified by the Director of Residence Life Personal Security Data Form Background Check Have been recommended to and approved by the Teacher Education Committee through the department chair of the area through which licensure is sought Have undergone an interview as outlined by their major department Lateral Entry Employed in a school a provisional or temporary license holder pursuing a clear initial license Candidates must provide the following documents to the Office of Teacher Education Copy of transcript showing degree earned Employment Contract Copy of license applied for by employing agency Copy of PRAXIS II test scores Upon submission of these documents a Program Evaluation Plan PEP will be developed and mailed to the candidate The PEP shows specialty area courses education courses and testing requirements needed to obtain an initial license Lateral Entry candidate must make application to Teacher Education before being permitted to take the upper level education courses Note Candidates seeking licensure through the Regional Alternative Licensing Center must Enroll in the University Completion of Admissions packet Contact the Office of Teacher Education for procedures to enroll in education courses

  • Admission to Clinical Experience
    internship is a cooperative endeavor between the University and the public schools The partnership is designed to exchange ideas to plan cooperatively and to provide candidates with a realistic and natural setting for a culminating experience A solid clinical experience program contributes in facilitating teamwork by providing the clinical experience teacher intern with an opportunity to acquire under supervised guidance an understanding of the teaching process It also provides an appropriate environment where candidates can demonstrate mastery of the skills involved in guiding the teaching of children Admission Requirements Application PDS and Traditional for clinical experience teacher internship must be the semester before the experience is anticipated Applications should be completed and submitted to the Department Chair To be eligible to clinical experience the candidate must Have been admitted to teacher education and have senior status Have completed to the satisfaction of the major area the teaching specialty component Have a cumulative grade point average of 2 5 or above with a minimum of C in all professional education courses Have been recommended to and approved by the Teacher Education Committee through the department chair of the area through which licensure is sought Have a security background check cleared of

    Secondary and Special Subjects music art and physical education majors must have at least twenty four 24 hours in their content areas to be eligible for the SP1 license Effective July 1 2014 middle secondary and K 12 with the exception of Special Education General Curriculum candidates recommended for an initial teaching license are NOT required by the SBE DPI to pass the required Praxis II licensure exam s prior to being recommended by the IHE Candidates who do NOT pass the exam s prior to IHE recommendation are required 1 to take the exam s at least once during their first year of teaching 2 to pass the exam s in order to convert the Standard Professional I license to the Standard Professional II license www ets org Special Education General Curriculum initial teaching licensure candidates MUST pass the Praxis II 0543 5543 Core Knowledge and Mild to Moderate Applications exam PRIOR to being recommended by the IHE This exam is used to meet the federal requirement of highly qualified Special Education General Curriculum licensure applicants must then meet the remaining licensure exam requirements Pearson s Foundations of Reading and General Curriculum exams in compliance with NC General Statues Special Education General Curriculum candidates who do NOT pass the Pearson Foundations of Reading and General Curriculum exams prior to IHE recommendation are required 1 to take the exam s at least once during their first year of teaching 2 to pass the exam s in order to convert the Standard Professional I license to the Standard Professional II license www ets org http www nc nesinc com Elementary Education Effective October 1 2014 Elementary Education initial teaching licensure candidates must PASS the Pearson Foundations of Reading and General Curriculum exams PRIOR to being recommended by the IHE These exams
