    of city and regional planning land development regulation environmental planning and law sustainable development legal and policy issues relating to brownfield remediation and management of urban growth Professor Keene has advised local governments on the legal aspects of environmental and farmland protection Professor Keene chaired the Department of City Regional Planning from 1988 to 1992 and served two terms as Chair of the Graduate Group in City and Regional Planning which administers the Ph D Degree program in City and Regional Planning During 1999 2000 and 2001 he served consecutively as Chair Elect Chair and past Chair of the Faculty Senate of the University of Pennsylvania He is serving as coodinator of Penn student s participation in an advanced master s degree in environmental management established by the Mines Paris formerly the Paris School of Mines and TsingHua University in Beijiing In 2004 Professor Keene was awarded the Christian R and Mary F Lindback Foundation Award for Distinguished Teaching He was awarded the G Holmes Perkins Award for Distinguished Teaching in 2005 Mr Keene served as University Ombudsman from 2006 to 2009 Publications He is the co author of Saving American Farmland What Works Guiding Growth A Primer on Growth Management for PennsylvaniaMunicipalities The Protection of Farmland A Reference Guidebook for State and Local Governments and Untaxing Open Space AnEvaluation of the Effectiveness of Differential Assessment of Farms and Open Space along with numerous articles and reports His article on Environmental Planning and Sustainable Development will be published in the Encyclopedia of Social and Behavioral Sciences Second Edition in 2014 Courses Professor Keene teaches courses on the Law of Planning and Urban Development Environmental Law Brownfield Remediation and Strategies for Sustainable Development Explore Cross Disciplinary Connections http www design upenn edu historic preservation people randall f mason Randall F Mason

    Apply Share Share via Email Architecture Jonathan J D Albert Lecturer jd jdalbert com http www bresslergroup com JD sees an engineer s work as designing practical elegant solutions to impossible problems especially ones requiring new materials He gets a kick out of conquering constraints and finding ways to make things no one else can As a veteran of two startups and an experienced consultant JD has fulfilled his own and his clients visions many times over and across multiple industries Right out of MIT he co founded E Ink whose technology is used in e reader devices including the Kindle and Nook JD has extensive experience with all kinds of manufacturing processes and deep knowledge of the integration of electrical and mechanical systems At Bresslergroup he oversees our growing world class engineering department and directs engineering led client work He has been granted more than fifty patents and is frequently called on to speak and write about product development in entrepreneurial settings He has presented at SEGD Intersolar Wharton and Harvard Business School He holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from MIT where he wanted to go since he was twelve and first read about Course 2

    Degrees won the inaugural Melbourne Prize for the Meyers Place Bar the first hole in the wall small bar that Six Degrees part owned built and operated that set the scene and became the signature of Melbourne s now famous laneways Craig has since documented and lectured extensively on the background policy implications and commercial elements of this successful transformation In 2000 Craig moved to Sydney where he conceived and operated a place making project during the Olympics He was subsequently commissioned by the City of Sydney to undertake two major investigations over 4 years The ensuing reports titled The Fine Grain outlined how Sydney could learn from Melbourne and revitalize its own city centre The Fine Grain reports have formed the basis for much of the renewal discussion and policy in Sydney and the City of Sydney is now implementing many of its recommendations Craig spent four years 2001 2004 commuting to China as Principal Urban Designer at Urbis completing over 40 master plans for competitions and commissions based out of Shanghai and Sydney and co ordinating an Australian Federal Government Tongji University Urban Planning Symposium in the Australian Pavilion at Expo 2010 in Shanghai In 2004 Craig was appointed by the NSW Government as an independent contractor to work on the long term master plan for Sydney He was subsequently made Director of Urban Design for the NSW State Planning Department where he worked for four years as part of a multidisciplinary team formulating A City of Cities Sydney s Metropolitan Strategy to manage Sydney s population growth and economic challenges for the next 30 years Craig also led the Urban Design on the South Australian government s 30 Year Plan for Greater Adelaide in 2009 has undertaken reviews of the long term land release strategy for Melbourne

    Blog Resources Courses About Apply Share Share via Email Landscape Architecture Kira Appelhans Lecturer B S Landscape Horticulture with concentration in Design and Construction magna cum laude Colorado State University 2002 M L A University of Pennsylvania 2005 Kira Appelhans is a landscape architect who fell in love with printmaking while pursuing her MLA at the University of Pennsylvania Kira was an Associate at Balmori Associates where she worked on projects ranging from the Bilbao Campa to New York rooftops Her current work which began with a fellowship at the MacDowell Colony explores the potential for using printmaking as an integral part of the design process and as a means to express the ephemeral qualities of the landscape Kira s writing and work has been published in numerous magazines including Topos 2010 and A T Spain 2006 Her work has been shown in the Museum of Modern Art as part of the 2010 Rising Currents design workshop and in a solo exhibition at the University of Manitoba Shifting Ground 2011 Kira has taught at Parsons The New School for Design and in the Masters of Landscape Architecture program at the University of Texas Austin You can see more of her
