    s Program on the Growth and Structure of Cities allowing juniors to apply for sub matriculation in the Master of City Planning MCP program This enables them to complete their undergraduate degree and an MCP degree in five years Students interested in this program should have a strong academic record some orientation to the planning field and well defined professional goals appropriate to the MCP degree Program Requirements and Advising Like regular MCP students sub matriculating students must complete the MCP core curriculum 10 Course units or CUs one of five concentrations Community and Economic Development 4 CUs Land Use and Environmental Planning 4 CUs Transportation Planning 4 CUs Urban Design 5 CUs or Public Private Development 4 CUs and a summer internship The remaining 4 or 5 CUs are taken as electives and are typically transferred from undergraduate coursework For most sub matriculants their senior year is one of overlap between completing their undergraduate degree requirements and starting their MCP requirements Upon their acceptance into the MCP program usually in their junior year sub matriculating students work with their advisors at PennPlanning and in their undergraduate major to develop a two year course plan Entering sub matriculating students are

  • MFA Program Overview | PennDesign
    students with a diverse faculty that span the disciplines of visual art Students extend their conceptual strategies while inventing and then refining hybridized forms of traditional art making methods In addition to seminars within the department graduate students are encouraged to pursue topics of science and the humanities through an immense selection of courses throughout the university The Penn MFA program is fluid In addition to studio and seminar courses graduate students select expert led workshops The workshops vary in focus from very technical subjects such as digital fabrication or new casting technologies to seminar topics such as issues of photography in painting Several workshops are introduced each semester allowing for a responsive curriculum that advances the individualized projects of the graduate students Each year students in the program present public lectures and exhibitions preparing them for an independent career in the arts that successfully reaches multiple audiences Teaching Assistantships are offered to all incoming students those with a sustained desire to teach participate in a program where they propose a syllabus and teach a foundation level studio course at Penn The MFA program annually awards students with opportunities to participate in a wide range of fully funded residency programs

    degree A Certificate in Historic Preservation and postgraduate Advanced Certificate program for advanced study in architectural conservation and site management are also available PennDesign does not offer a specific Ph D program in historic preservation but preservation faculty often work with students enrolled in the School of Design s Ph D programs in Architecture and City Regional Planning Master of Science in Historic Preservation The Master of Science in Historic Preservation combines rigorous intellectual training with practical foundational skills needed for professional practice The degree is earned in four consecutive semesters two years with students taking four to five courses per semester for a total of 19 Course Units First year core courses prepare students for second year integrative courses the Preservation Studio and individual Thesis Each student chooses electives clustered around an Area of Emphasis ten of the 19 required Course Units are devoted to electives A professional internship is required in the summer between the two years of study The MSHP degree may be pursued in conjunction with other PennDesign departments and Penn schools as part of established dual degree programs View the Summary of Curriculum Requirements here Certificate in Historic Preservation The Certificate in Historic Preservation provides an opportunity for students in other PennDesign departments to gain expertise in historic preservation while completing requirements for their other professional degrees in architecture city planning or landscape architecture The Certificate program also offers practicing professionals the opportunity to pursue specialization training in historic preservation in one semester of full time work For all students the requirements must be completed within four years of admission Five course units in Historic Preservation including HSPV 660 Theories of Historic Preservation are selected in consultation with the faculty to develop an area of professional focus Advanced Certificate in Architectural Conservation The Program also

    The second professional degree is two years in length and is designed for those who already hold an accredited bachelors degree in either landscape architecture or architecture Students may be admitted with advanced standing into either of these programs depending upon their respective backgrounds Dual degree programs with architecture MLA MARCH city planning MLA MCP historic preservation MLA MSHP or fine arts MLA MFA are also available All of the above named degrees may be combined with certificate programs in Historic Preservation Urban Design or Real Estate and Development The Department also offers a Certificate in Landscape Studies designed for students who may wish to augment or focus their prior work through research into landscape topics View Course Descriptions for Landscape Architecture Master of Landscape Architecture Professional Degree Program Accreditation In the United States most state registration boards require a degree from an accredited professional degree program and three years or more apprenticeship as a prerequisite for licensure The American Society of Landscape Architects ASLA which is the sole agency authorized to accredit US professional degree programs in landscape architecture recognizes one type of degree the Master of Landscape Architecture A new program may be granted a one or two
